SNOW agents on AIX are not reporting

Hi Bhagwat, You mention some interesting facts in your post: Manual scan seems to be successful, a snowpack is created on the AIX server, and no errors are logged. The snowpack is successfully sent from the AIX server (I assume that the snowpack file disappears from the data subfolder, and the correct inventory URL is configured in the agent config file. ) In my experience that means one of two things: 1. The snowpack files cannot be processed by the inventory server for one reason or another, and ends up in the ERROR folder on the inventory server, ususally located here: C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Snow Inventory\Server\Incoming\data\error. Check this folder and see if you find any files here. You might find encrypted snowpacks, and a readable log file with the same file name as the snowpack file. The log might give a clue to what is going on, and the Snow Support team should be able to help you find the root cause. There should be one snowpack per AIX machine per day. So if you have 10 AIX servers that has not reported in for 100 days, you should find 1000 snowpack files in the error folder. 2 . Your AIX servers have similar hardware identifiers, such as bios serial number, bios vendor and serial number. This can lead to an issue where the inventory server thinks that all AIX servers are the same machine, and will update only one record in the database instead of adding a new record for each AIX server. This is fairly common with virtual AIX servers. In this case you will usually find ONE AIX server in snow inventory, and the name of that server will change from day to day depending on which AIX server was scanned last. There is a way to deal with this in inventory server, using an alternative identification mode called HOSTNAME ONLY, which is documented in the Inventory Server Userguid e. There are also several discussions in the community that addresses different HostnameOnly situations that might be helpful too. Start checking the error folder (related to point 1 above) , or if you have at least one AIX machine in inventory server, and if that single server seems to switch name from day to day (related to point 2 above). / Martin

  Thanks for the useful information. I have checked Gateway and Inventory server both but none have snowpack files in Error folder. I would like to know more about alternative identification mode called HOSTNAME ONLY. I am from operations team so need to explore more but looks like it is due to this mode only.

Hi Bhagwat, As what Martin had mentioned. For AIX LPAR, 'HostNameOnly' mode is the only way to go. In addition to that, i would suggest for you to consider on using Unix Agent v6. This will lessen the issues with your Snowpack processing.

  Thanks for your suggestion but we are using Snow agent version 6.2.3 in our environment. I am from operations team so could you please let me know to check or to modify "Host name" mode.
