Agent edit server address

Hello,

is it possible to change the Endpoint Server address of Snow Agent afterwards? We rolled out the agent with HTTP and now want to change it to HTTPS. The whole thing can be done in the SMACC configuration area. Does the agent get the new server address written directly into the config after the change or does he have to coordinate with the inventory server?

This also means that the Inventory Server has to set up multiple endpoints during the time it receives inventories from HTTP and HTTPS Agent, doesn't it?

Thank you and many greetings

mathias

Hi Matthias,   during a transition phase, the SIS should be configured with both endpoint addresses. (http, https)   Over the smacc you can then distribute a new SnowAgent.config file.   Alternatively, you can request new installation packages for our agent through Snow Support.
    • Hello Detlev, thank you for your answer. In particular, we do not have any certificates for the HTTPS connection at the time of implementation. Therefore, first the connection via HTTP and later we would like to follow HTTPS. On the Inventory Server you can change this without any problems. But I don't know how to do that with the agent. Or is it possible to enter 2 endpoint addresses in the config? Thank you and many greetings Mathias

Hi Mathias, yes you can enter 2 Endpoint addresses in the Agent config file. Note. the first time it runs it tries them (in the same order they are specified) until one of them responds correctly then the information on the valid endpoint is saved and used as the preferred (first one tried) from then on in the case the valid endpoint stops responding, the information on the last good known endpoint is scrapped and the cycle starts from the first point  Please read also the Technical Reference: Configuration document for all Inventory agents

The documentation still says it chooses randomly: When establishing a connection to the server the agent simply choses an endpoint randomly from the list of available endpoints until each endpoint has been atempted at least once before giving up. The first endpoint that results in a successfull connection will be used for the remainder of the session.   Cheers Colin ‌

          • not quite needs to be like this:- <Server>  <Endpoint>       <Address> http://testserverhttp:80 </Address>  </Endpoint> <Endpoint> <Address> https://testserverhttps:443 </Address> </Endpoint> </Server> You can then save the config (remember to call it snowagent.config) and then distribute it via the SMACC.
