API with write accesses

Hello everybody,

we need an API that can also write to SNOW.

Unfortunately we are thinking about introducing an ITSM tool which also includes an AP.

However, the standard API of SNOW is read-only. In this way, SNOW cannot be triggered by a third-party tool.

Is it possible to get a writing API through the SNOW AP?

We would like to display the following:

- A computer leaves the company. An employee can now archive the computer in the service tool. In SNOW, a custome field is set to a different status and is archived. In addition, the computer in the AD is deactivated afterwards. (From ITSM to SNOW)

- A license has not been needed for more than x days. A ticket is opened in the ITSM tool to determine whether the license should continue to be used or whether it may be uninstalled. (From SNOW to ITSM)

- An installation is performed by the ITSM tool. A license assignment to the existing licenses in SNOW is carried out directly.

- In the offbording process, all licenses are removed from persons and computers.

  • Something similar has also been proposed on the ideas board, see this one . ‌, I see you have already voted, so I don't need to tell you about it ;-) Regards, David
    • Hi David,  I was hoping the SNOW AP would bring a writing API. I thought that since SNOW AP can also perform a license assignment during an approval procedure, there may also be write access through an API.
      • Hi ‌, Apologies, I hadn't actually noticed that this was specific to Snow AP , my mistake. But perhaps Snow can take both these APIs (SLM and AP) into consideration for Read/Write access... Regards, David
        • Hi David,  ‌ has shown me the important point. The SNOW AP can trigger SNOW and can even be controlled by another ITSM tool via JSON. I think, it´s perfect for reducing manual processes and multiple workflows. As soon as I had my first experiences with the AP I will report.
          • Thanks ‌.  It will be interesting to know how you get on with that.  Regards, David
  • Hi Julian, as the SLM API is strictly read only, we usually use the ootb SLM import functionality to write data to SLM. Check the "Import Service" tab in the SLM Web Configurator. You can define a  folder there that will be monitored for incoming data. If you now use powershell in Snow AP to generate the import file and drop it into that folder, this will update your data in SLM. Done! Kind regards, Axel
