SCCM Connector account - Local or AD?

We are trying to configure an SCCM connector and every attempt using a valid account fails. I can ping the SCCM DB Server so that is not an issue. We tried using an AD service account that can launch the SQL Management Studio on that server, but the test connection fails. that AD account is added as a local SQL Account.  We also tried using another local SQL account that is used for the Inventory DB and it also fails.

Is there a guideline document somewhere related to how the SCCM connector account should be setup?

Thanks,

Mark Walther

Hi Mark, The "User ID" and "Password" for the Snow Integration Manager uses a SQL Authenticated Account. You cannot use  domain\user in these fields.  In order to use a domain account you must launch the Snow Integration Manager using the desired service account. Follow the steps below. Note: If you want the Snow Integration Manager to query the SCCM database on a scheduled basis. You must change the "Snow Inventory External Data Provider" Hold the "Shift" key and right mouse click the Snow Integration Manger icon.   Enter the service account credentials to run the SIM as that user   You must check "Use integrated security"   now you should be able to drop drop down the "database" tab and select the SCCM DB.

    • OK, let me try to set this all up this way. We have two SCCM DB's we are connecting to. I will need to make sure they both use the same credentials. One is already working. This new one is to connect to a companies SCCM DB we acquired recently. I did have the local SCCM admin set my service account as a SQL authenticated account, it throws this error on the SQL Server: Login failed for user 'svc-mapinv'. Reason: An attempt to login using SQL authentication failed. Server is configured for Windows authentication only. [CLIENT: 10.65.42.127] Login failed for user 'Service.SQLSCCM'. Reason: An attempt to login using SQL authentication failed. Server is configured for Windows authentication only. [CLIENT: 10.65.42.127]

Hi Mark, I have seen that error many times before.  The database server has been configured to only accept Windows Accounts, and you are trying to connect with a local SQL account.  Either you or your DBA's will need to reconfigure SQL to allow mixed mode authentication.  To do this, open up SQL Management Studio, connect to your database server.  Once it opens up, right click on the server name in the tree view, then click on Properties.  Click on the Security tab and change the Server Authentication to SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode. I hope that helps you a little bit.

  • Although the connector tests OK, I am not getting any data or inventory in SLM. When I click the preview button from within the SCCM connector properties I get this: Any thoughts?

Mark, In the filter section of the SCCM connector filter on a single machine name. Then click preview. What is shown at that point? If nothing is shown you may not have SCCM and the Asset Inelegance modules configure correctly to be a viable inventory source for SCCM. I have uploaded a document that helps with this configuration here.
      • I verified the Asset Intelligence is enabled and configured. We are looking at permissions at this point. In the filter section I see nothing.

Hi Mark, I have also found some helpful links that will allow you to configure SCCM to find SQL editions. In teh past SCCM would find that SQL 2008 R2 was on a machine but not if it was SQL 2008 R2 Express or SQL 2008 R2 Standard.  I would recommend changing these settings in order to get accurate SQL Editions from SCCM. Installed SQL05, SQL08, SQL12, SQL14 version information via ConfigMgr Hardware Inventory | myITforum.com   This link shows how to force a client update.   http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2013/03/17/force-policy-updates-now-from-your-script/
