Deployment of Agents

Hello All,

We are in process of deploying the agents on the windows workstations and servers, please provide inputs on the following:

a) What all information is required to prepare a agent package which can be deployed using SCCM

b) Is it possible to add an additional powershell script while deploying the agent on the workstations and servers

c) In case of re configuring the agents, what all information is required to prepare a agent package which can be deployed using SCCM

Hi Sumit, do you have the server components already installed? If so, you can create your agent configuration in the Snow Management and Configuration Center (SMACC) by yourself. Go to SMACC, then connect to the SnowInventory database. Go to the menu "Configurations" and click on "Create new" in the top menu. You can now create your own configuration using the wizard. After you have completed the configuration, export it and send the .config-file to Snow Support and ask for an agent package to be created. You will receive the agent as a downloadable zip archive. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask. /marcel

    • Hi Marcel, From your point, I understood that we will only create the agent file (snowagent.config) by using "Configurations" menu. Further, the agent file will be sent to the Snow support to add the latest snow agent and package them together which can be deployed to the target machine. Is there any option to create a complete package ourselves to avoid the dependency over the Snow to create the package and also we have SCCM team we can give latest agent exe and config file to them to create the package. In case of update, can we push the agent update and config file update separately. In this case directly we can push the update or we need to remove the older version of file or an agent.

      • Hi Sumit, There is no option to create a complete package yourself. But once you have received a MSI-installer and installed the Snow Inventory Client you can update the client via Snow Inventory Server. Regards, Andreas

Hi Sumit, you are correct. There is currently no way for customers to create MSI packages by themselves. The initial MSI needs to be created by Snow Support. If there are updates to the configuration, you can create them via the described console and push them out to the agents. If there are updates to the agent himself, you can push updates out through the "Agent updates" menu in SMACC. /marcel

        • Great, thanks for the confirmation. One last query do we have any sample snowagent.config available. Also I do not want to provide the server name and port in the agent config file and want to send the data to the Snow Inventory server as per the CNAME record / DNS record. In this case what value can be provided in the config file.

Hi Sumit, simply create a configuration and enter $servername$ etc. This should create you a sample. /marcel
