Beginner question, automation, https, gestio

Hi - I am very,very, new to this. .. I have a ipam tool. Gestio.. I do not have the API.. But as a test I would like to make a workflow that would enable the user to add himself as a user to this system. When I do it manually i log on to it using https - add user - type in some info. and press "add". done. I would like him to do this himself and for me to just get a "approval" button within SNOW. Can anyone give me a pointer on where I begin ?

Hi Trond, Welcome to the community! Do you know if there's an API for Gestio that can be used to add a user? Reason for asking is that, in order for AP (Automation Platform) to be set up for your described scenario - Gestio needs to be able to accept external requests for the specific scenario. As long as there is at least one way to integrate to the targeted system (in this case Gestio) AP can support the use case. Common ways of integrating in prioritized order is: - Gestio API to support add user calls. - SDK / PowerShell components for add user functionality - File based import for adding users.   Hi, Thank you There is an API, but there is a cost involved - so as of now that is not an option for me. And also this is kind of a POC, for me to see what options I have relating to "other stuff" than vmware and azure (where i do have books already. Gestio runs on a linux, so I would guess that powershell is out of the question ? .. Is there not any way for me to grab a coder-dude and get him to produce something that I can import into AP ? .. I was initially thinking that we could push some commands or scripts over a SSH or HTTPS ? But where I get lost is how I get this into AP ? This is probably what is boils down to for me.. Can we create our own automaton books that I can import. How hard is it ? Thank you so much for replying, as I said - I'm out in pretty deep water here.

    Sounds good, There are surely different ways of solving this use case. One way could be to create a PowerShell to either: 1. Invoke commands of SSH/HTTPS 2. Run the bash script from PowerShell The way to approach a new integration generally is to set it up outside of AP to begin with. For this case it could be: 1. Create bash script, test it isolated and verify that the outcome is as expected. 2. Create a PowerShell script, test it isolated to see that the outcome is as expected. 3. Import the PowerShell script, so that it becomes an actiivty to be part of workflow, test it within AP to validate the outcome. 4. Build the rest of the workflow - e.g. approval, complete notification etc. Cheers, David

    Ok - so now my go-to-guy regarding powershell has created a powershell script that looks to be working fine when testing locally. So what I understand, is that now I will import this script in "Administer->Activity admin". And from here I can goahead with the paramteters and run conditions. Pretty cool I it would have been nice if I had this small test working in a few days. Tnx for the help .. I will keep you updated on the progress for sure.

    Sounds great, Yes that would be the approach. 1. Add activity in activity admin 2. Create workflow and add the activity to the workflow (as a workflow step) 3. Create a service and select the created workflow as the "order" workflow. From there, you can try testing it by requesting it in AP and also tweak the parameters. Details of the reqeust progress are available in "Request monitor". Good luck - looking forward to hear how things progress!
