If your environment isn't configured for SSL, but Require SSL is enabled in the WSUS Administration site in IIS, the following error can occur when SCCM attempts to download content:

Failed to download content id XXXXXXX Error: The process is not in background processing mode

This error may also occur when deploying the package or running the Download Wizard if you right-click on the package, then select Download and complete the wizard steps.

Solution

To resolve this issue, follow the steps below.

  1. Launch IIS on the WSUS server. Then, expand Sites and select WSUS Administration.

  1. Select SSL Settings.

  1. Ensure Require SSL is not enabled. If it is, uncheck the box to disable it and apply your changes.

After following these steps, you should be able to download content successfully from the internet in SCCM.
