We are excited to announce the release of Custom Panel Settings for Embedded Power BI Reports!

What is the Custom Panel settings?

Custom Panel settings for embedded Power BI reports provides users with a seamless experience when interacting with panel settings such as bookmarks and the selection pane. This enhancement was introduced to support critical functionality around custom dropdown filters—a key requirement for report interactivity and usability.

Why Was This Needed?

In the current embedded Power BI experience, the native “Panels” bar—located at the top of the report view—behaves inconsistently during runtime. Enabling or disabling options under that, can lead to a frustrating user experience, as it appears and disappears unpredictably.

• Eliminates confusion and frustration caused by unpredictable native panel behavior.
• Enables reliable use of custom dropdown filters, enhancing report personalization.

How It Works

The Custom UI feature uses Flexera’s global API to save user related settings to manage and control the visibility and behavior of Bookmarks and the Selection Pane from our own interface—bypassing limitations of the native Power BI runtime behavior. Users can now confidently apply and manage filters through dropdowns, knowing that the UI will respond predictably.

To ensure adoption and ease of use, we’ve also created clear documentation outlining:

• How to add custom filters
• How to update existing bookmarks and create new bookmarks

This allows customers to configure and maintain their custom report views efficiently without relying on the unstable native panel settings.
