Combination of Windows agent 6.7.1 and old SWID script 1.8

I know the Windows agent 6.7.1 holds the swidtag scanning functionality in its agent. But what if the old scan-swid.snow-ps1 1.8 version is still in the agent directory too? Will this conflict? Will the script no longer be executed? Does anyone know?

  • Hey Gert,

I have this exact setup on my machine and it doesn't appear to have any issues with its usual scanning, I think it just ignores it?

  • Hi Gert-Jan,

Recently I talked with Snow PO regarding Agent 6.7.1

And I got also following statement "...and it's important, please remove scan-swid"

I need to say we had a lot to do and I did not ask, what would be the issue, when scan-swid is within 6.7.1

So I can't give you more information. A Snow Agent msi with 6.7.1 do not include that scan-swid anymore.

  • Hi Carola,

important statement by Snow "...and it's important, please remove scan-swid" but not important enough for them to inform their customers about this or even better arrange this removal one way or another in Inventory server so an agent update rule to 6.7.1 would have done this automatically.

But it's not that difficult to remove them. I already tested this with the delete support file entry in an agent update rule and that does the job.

    Thanks for the tip,

    Gert-Jan.

  • I do not really know. But I think the msi of 6.7.1 do remove the scan-swid.

I recently started to distribute the msi for 6.7.1 by our Software Distribution tool DSM (not by SIS server). The msi package did not include scan-swid. But after installation the former existing scan-swid was removed.

But I think when you distribute the exe by SIS server, then you need to remove scan-swid by yourself.

I agree it would be helpful to have an informaton about that.

  • Hi, Can I ask what is the knock on consequence of having Scan-Swid.snow-ps1 in the agent directory if we are running v6.7.1 of the agent?

We get our agent installer packaged by Snow Support and I argued that the initial package of it was missing this script, unaware of what is being mentioned here, upon which it was duly added by support.. This appears contrary to the 'important' advice given above? 😵
