SQL Server system CLR Type 10
Hi team, we checked our customers SQL environment and they have also applications called sql server system clr type 10. Snow says customer needs license for this, but I'm not sure. Do you have any experience with this application? Is this one of those cases where if part of bundle, license is not required, on the other hand if it's just individual component, then it needs license? Thank you for your help:)
CLR types are a separate download available from MS website:
Download Microsoft SQLSysCLRTypes from Official Microsoft Download Center
Also, they are not mentioned in the Licensing Terms anywhere:
https://www.microsoft.com/licensing/terms/productoffering/SQLServer
The conclusion is that this product does not require a license
Hi Louise, sorry for my late response. Unfortunately I haven't seen or received any information about this and Snow team also didn't provide the explanation, why CLT Type application requires a license. If someone from Snow team reads this ticket, can you share some explanation? Thank you :)
Hi all, SQL should be treated as "every component counts as a license" in this case SNOW is correct - the separate component needs a separate license if installed on a server/instance/WM other than the actual SQL server.
"SQL Server 2012 software or any of its components (such as Reporting Services or Integration Services) must be assigned an appropriate number of SQL Server 2012 core licenses" . Same if a SERVER / CAL scenario.
Hi Nedi,
I'm trying to find the same answer as you, does SQL Server CLR Type require a SQL license?
https://www.microsoft.com/web/webpi/eula/SysClrTypes_SQLServer.htm
As far as I understand and can read about it, it does not require a license as long as you agree to the terms. As it is possible to download, I don't see this software as being part of any SQL Server bundles (Express, Developer, Standard or Enterprise).
Appreciate all the help I can get regarding this matter.
Thanks!
Louise
