DGylden asked a question.
Historical number of unique applications
Is there any way of getting that number either per week or per day, i know there is historical report built in but it does not match the number of unique software we can get by running the search for applications. 🙂
Hello DGylden,
to be honest, I have no idea what exactly your question is, but I'll try to make an "educated guess" 😉
The application installation history shows additions and removals of applications. In my environment the oldest entry is one year in the past. So I assume, this could be related to the ACTION_LOG_DAYS setting in SnowMACC (by default 365 days).
The "Search for applications" list is based on currently inventoried applications, including a "grace period" of the months set in SnowMACC as METERING_HISTORY_MONTHS (by default 3 months if I am not mistaken).
Having that said, I think it is pretty obvious that there is some difference in the numbers.
Hope that helps, Axel
i get your point, and to be honest it was also puzzling me on why i couldnt make the same report as i had on my SnowBoard where i have a count for unique applications, we use that number to track our journey to drive down the overall number unique applications, normally it would in my eyes be done by running the report "All Applications", but that did not work as it constantly where showing an excess of 4-600 applications.
But it turns out that we apparently had an error somewhere, i had to take down the environment for 1 hour 2 nights ago and after i spun it back up it ran DUJ for 30 hours and now today the reports match the unique count from the SnowBoard, so in that perspective case is closed 😉
Now i'm just very concerned on what the heck happened 😮
Hi Dennis,
Could you expand a little on what it is you are trying to get to with this data?
Axel's is also correct in his answer with regards to the differences between the two reports. another reason for the difference you are seeing in the historical install report and the all applications view is that the all applications view also includes used application that may not necessarily be installed anymore whereas the historical installed report only covers computer installations.
You could potentially use the all applications report with the first discovered column and a filter for installed = yes. but this really depends on what it is you are hoping to report on and what you want to use this data for.
Kind regards,
Jelle
correct and see my post at same timestamp as yours, it has been wrong for months but now its correct... 😧
