ARL Content Change: Exchange Server Subscription Edition (SE) Recognition Changes 

Overview 

Microsoft treats Exchange Server Subscription Edition (SE) as the product version and not as a licensing edition. To align with Microsoft's published product model and improve consistency of recognition, Flexera is updating the Application Recognition Library (ARL) recognition logic for Exchange Server Subscription Edition 

Microsoft's latest Exchange Server release is identified as Exchange Server Subscription Edition (SE). In this naming convention, SE represents the product version name rather than a separate edition. The available licensing editions continue to be Standard and Enterprise. 

Current Behaviour 

Some Exchange Server Subscription Edition evidence may currently be recognized under application records where the edition is represented as Subscription, while other evidence is mapped based on the Standard or Enterprise edition information available within the raw inventory evidence. 

Planned Change 

To provide consistent recognition and align with Microsoft's definitions, ARL will introduce the following application models: 

Inventory evidence containing Exchange Server Subscription Edition information will be mapped to the appropriate application based on the edition details available within the evidence.  

When inventory evidence does not contain sufficient information to determine whether the installation is Standard or Enterprise, the application will be recognized as Unspecified edition until additional details are available. 

Customer Impact & Recommended actions 

• More accurate differentiation between Standard and Enterprise editions of Exchange Server Subscription Edition, leading to improved alignment with vendor naming conventions. 
• Standard and Enterprise editions continue to be recognized separately where edition information is available. Customers may observe application name changes in reports, dashboards and inventories however the update is not intended to introduce new license editions or alter Microsoft licensing definitions. 
• No specific customer action recommended. Flexera will automatically apply the updated recognition through the ARL release. Customers do not need to change inventory collection, inventory settings, or recognition configurations. Existing evidence will be recognized using the updated application model after the ARL update is applied.

ARL Release Date 

This change is planned for inclusion in the ARL release scheduled for 09th October 2026 and will be documented in the corresponding ARL release notes.

ARL Content Change : IBM Workload Scheduler and HCL Workload Automation Publisher Alignment

Product and publisher recognition guidance

Overview

To improve catalog accuracy and ensure consistent publisher recognition, upcoming content updates will align IBM Workload Scheduler and HCL Workload Automation products based on product branding and vendor ownership.

IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS) was subsequently renamed IBM Workload Scheduler (IWS). In parallel, HCL introduced and maintains its own HCL Workload Automation and HCL Workload Automation Agent offerings as part of the historical IBM-HCL product relationship.

Although these products share a common product lineage and may contain similar functionality and version numbering, they represent distinct publisher offerings and should be recognized separately for inventory, reporting, and licensing purposes.

What's Changing?

The following publisher and product alignment rules will be applied:

Where evidence clearly identifies IBM branding, it will be recognized as an IBM Workload Scheduler offering. Where evidence identifies HCL branding, it will be recognized as the corresponding HCL offering and will not be mapped to IBM products.

All existing application metadata, evidence linking, and product relationships will be retained where applicable.

Why Are We Making This Change?

During content review, it was observed that similar version numbers, including releases such as 10.1.x and 10.2.x, are referenced in both IBM and HCL product documentation.

This demonstrates that version information alone is insufficient to accurately determine the publisher. The same version number may exist under different vendor branding maintained by IBM and HCL.

To ensure accurate product recognition and licensing alignment, publisher assignment must be based on explicit product branding and vendor evidence rather than version number alone. This update provides greater consistency across product identification, reporting, and software asset management processes.

What Is Not Changing?

This update is a publisher and product alignment clarification only. The change will not impact:

·       Inventory collection

·       Software discovery processes

·       Licensing calculations

·       Evidence collection methods

·       Product identifiers

·       Existing installations or deployments

·       Recognized product versions

Systems currently recognizing IBM-branded or HCL-branded Workload Scheduler products will continue to recognize those products according to the updated publisher alignment rules.

Handling Ambiguous Evidence

Important: Version number alone is not sufficient for publisher assignment.

For evidence that contains only a generic product name such as “Workload Scheduler” together with a version number, there is insufficient information to reliably determine the publisher.

In such cases, additional vendor-specific evidence should be reviewed before mapping the installation to an IBM or HCL product.

Version information alone should not be used as the basis for publisher assignment.

Customer Action

No action is required for most customers. Customers who use custom reports, dashboards, integrations, exports, workflows, or compliance processes that specifically reference IBM Workload Scheduler or HCL Workload Automation should review those references following the release to ensure alignment with the updated publisher recognition approach.

ARL Classification Update on IBM WebSphere Application Server Liberty and WebSphere Application Server Liberty Network Deployment

Overview

Flexera is updating the Application Recognition Library (ARL) classification for the following IBM offerings:

• WebSphere Application Server Liberty, also known as WebSphere Application Server (base) Liberty
• WebSphere Application Server Liberty Network Deployment

These offerings are currently classified in the ARL as Commercial products. Following this update, they will be classified as Components of their corresponding traditional WebSphere Application Server offerings. This change aligns the ARL classification with IBM’s documented product packaging and entitlement model.

Why Are We Making This Change?

IBM documentation states that WebSphere Application Server Liberty base is not available as a standalone product. Entitlement to it is obtained through WebSphere Application Server (traditional), which includes entitlement to both the traditional and Liberty base components. Similarly, WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment Liberty is not available as a standalone product. Entitlement to it is obtained through WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment (traditional), which includes entitlement to both the traditional and Liberty Network Deployment components. Flexera is therefore updating these ARL classifications from Commercial to Component to more accurately represent IBM’s documented product structure.

What Is Changing?

Only the ARL classification is changing. Existing application metadata, evidence linking, and product relationships will be retained.

What Is Not Changing?

This is a classification update only. It will not change:

• Product and application recognition results
• Inventory collection
• Software discovery
• Existing installations or deployments
• Evidence linking
• Application metadata
• Existing product relationships

Systems that currently recognize these products will continue to recognize them after the update.

Customer Impact

After the update, customers will see the affected products classified as Component instead of Commercial in ARL.

Customers may observe the new classification in:

• Custom reports and dashboards
• ARL exports
• Integrations that consume ARL classification data
• Automated workflows that use Product Classification as a filter

Recommended Customer Action

Customers should review the update if they use the Classification attribute in either or similar options, like custom reports, dashboards, integrations, exports, or automated workflows etc.

Release Information

This change is scheduled to be included in the ARL release on September 21, 2026.

The attached file contains the list of affected products and applications included in this update.

Title: Upcoming Changes to Publisher from Quest to One Identity

Summary: This blog announces a publisher change for selected Quest products. As One Identity now operates as a separate brand, the publisher for the related products will be updated from Quest to One Identity.

Accordingly, these changes will be incorporated into the ARL.

We are updating the publisher for selected Quest products. Attached is the list of Quest products/applications that will be affected by this change.
