Hello,

The RN150 is regularly patched via the required communication to initial.riscnetworks.com.

For minor updates, including security patches and library updates, this happens regularly and asynchronously.

For feature updates, they are documented here https://docs.flexera.com/cloud-migration/release-notes/ and then released for automatic updates if the features support existing assessments. Almost all updates do, but some changes like support for new virtualization platforms or new credential accesses are not.

Lastly, for major OS upgrades they will be made available automatically but will require the user of the RN150 to begin the upgrade process, and will interrupt the discovery process.

  2. Gathering MAC Adresses without any credentials

    Hi,

Is is possible in some way to collect MAC adresses on devices where we do not have any credentials working? We are able to gather them through tools like advanced-ip-scanner, but in RN150 they only show up with their IP-adress.

Was really hoping RN150 would also show the MAC of these devices.

    • Basically we would like to show MAC adresses here:

That will depend on which of the stages that you're referring to in this question. It can vary from a few MB as a one-off to more over an extensive period of time if performance data is being collected.

Architecture wise, the RN150 collects a certain amount of data, and then creates a zipped, encrypted file which it then uploads, i.e., it happens in batches of data.

      Thanks,

      John Sorensen

I see the same message when clicking on Location3 in our demo environment, i.e., a location without devices without a layer 2 network connection discovered:

Visualize TopologyDo you think that your discovery of this specific subnet includes valid credentials for a network layer 2 discovery of devices?

Please feel free to contact Flexera Support, if you believe it should have been able to discover this and need assistance in troubleshooting the issue.

The discovery stage (referring to How We Collect documentation) is an ICMP (ping) sweep on the subnets defined to be in scope, i.e., network devices in these subnets will be discovered. However, you can leave these out of the inventory and performance stages.

  1. Questions with regards to Flexera Foundation/Cloudscape subnet discovery

    Hello,

Background, I have done a number of discoveries over the years but generally they have been smaller or more targeted to migration planning and DD work. I am running a very large global discovery that has many private 172.16.0.0, 192.168.0.0 and 10.0.0.0 subnets. There are over 30k devices and ~7k (or more) expected targets for discovery.

    1. I have used many /16 summarized subnets (e.g. 10.1.0.0/16) to make it easier to coalesce in the RN150 interface and capture all currently undocumented subnets and targets.
      • Outside of the obvious oversize/time issues, are there any Flexera based issues that I should be aware of or scanning gaps that the summarizing might cause? I have noticed some inconsistencies on what gets discovered in the same overall summarized network and the more directed /24 subnets.
      • When /16 subnets are added to scope, does Flexera end up seeing the actual and smaller subnets (i.e. /24 etc) and add them to the scanned subnets group? I have seen inconsistencies and/or lack of clarity about this.
      • Regarding subnets and locations, as anybody has done this for a large network knows, it is extremely painful and manual to move subnets/locations in the portal.
      • There seems to be a feature called out whereas these locations can be auto-grouped via the SNMP mechanism to the network devices. I have the SNMP configuration for the network devices but this subnet to location definitions do not seem to work. Note, I am not referring to the subnet discovery option in the assessment Appliance settings. Is there something I should be aware of to get this properly configured?
    2. I have been running through various subnet entries and scans to confirm and validate issues we have run into, if a subnet is not currently selected for scanning, does that then automatically configure said subnet to be flagged as “Out-of-Scope”?
      • I assume this is flagged when Build App Stacks is executed but I would have assumed that if the subnet is still within the RN150 subnets list (just not activated) it would not change the in or out of scope labelling.
      • Similarly, there does not appear to be any rhyme-reason to systems that show in the “No Connectivity” group where there obviously is when there is an IP, hostname and Device Type listed.
    3. Any experienced tips/tricks on managing large and dispersed networks for ongoing Flexera Cloudscape/Foundation discoveries?

    Thanks for your advice.

Cloud Migration and Modernization - Add custom discounts for Cloud Cost Views

Flexera Cloud Migration and Modernization has added the ability to add custom discounts within the Cloud Cost Views. This new capability allows users to apply custom discounts to migration pricing, offering more accurate cost estimates and greater flexibility for managing cloud migration budgets.

    Key Benefits:

    1. Flexible Discount Input: Users can now input custom discounts as a percentage, offering more precise control over cost reductions and pricing strategies tailored to migration projects.
    2. Real-Time Cost Estimates: The system instantly generates cost estimates that reflect applied discounts, providing more accurate data for project budgeting.
    3. Comprehensive Cloud Migration Cost Visibility: Gain full visibility into cloud migration costs, helping to make informed decisions and optimize budget planning.

Previously, the system did not account for customer-specific discounts, which limited the ability to provide accurate cost projections for cloud migrations. This new feature enables users to add custom pricing to reflect real costs associated with migration services, improving budget accuracy and flexibility.

For detailed instructions on using this new feature, please refer to the following documentation:

This new capability empowers customers with greater control over their cloud migration costs, ensuring more precise cost management and informed decision-making throughout their migration journey.

Cloud Migration and Modernization : CyberArk Integration - Support for SSH Keys

Flexera Cloud Migration and Modernization has added the support for SSH keys to CyberArk integration. This update significantly improves security and streamlines credential management by allowing users to leverage SSH key-based authentication alongside existing usernames and passwords. Previously, the integration lacked the capability to manage SSH keys, restricting users from fully utilizing SSH key-based authentication. With this enhancement, users can now retrieve SSH key information using the CyberArk API, write the SSH key to a temporary file, and pass it to the program securely. This provides a more secure and comprehensive solution for privileged access management.

Cloud Migration and Modernization CyberArk Update

Flexera Cloud Migration and Modernization has added the ability for users to utilize CyberArk. This will allow for a higher degree of security with existing CyberArk identity management credentials and allow for significant time savings leveraging CyberArk for credential rotation rather than manual updates in the RN150 virtual appliance.

Documentation for how to implement this new CyberArk integration can be found here:

    Foundation/Cloudscape naming documentation update

    Hi all,

Flexera has updated our product naming of the Foundation and Cloudscape platforms to better reflect their respective functionality. You will now see:

    • Foundation as ‘Business Service Discovery’
    • Cloudscape as ‘Migration Planning’

You will see this new naming convention reflected in all existing and future documentation and reference.

    Thanks,

  7. Windows collection module Usr permissions (Domian Admin is not an oprtion)

    Hello team.

Customer's InfoSec team are refusing to allow domain administrator/local administrator to be used for collection of Windows devices, they want the user to be used with the least privileges.

How to create such custom user/group with minimum needed privileges, knowing that these privileges are not only the WMI classes but also the ability to run remote command (like netstat, ipconfig, .. etc)

Can you assist us in providing the steps for creating such custom domain user/group with the needed permissions on the active directory.

    Thanks.

  8. Errors entering key code on RN150 appliance: "Error encountered when submitting key" and "This key is already in use by another appliance"

    Hi Team,

    Please help with the issue.

While provisioning the RN150 appliance and after entering the key code we were prompted to select between a FlexDeploy setup. At this step, the web-browser's tab closed (by mistake) and I wasn't able to perform that action afterwards with the following message:

    > Error encountered when submitting key. Please try refreshing the page, or contact support if this persists.

Refreshing the page or opening it from another browser didn't make the trick, so I chose to re-create the RN150 appliance, which turned out the wrong thing to do, since now it seems that the key cannot be used anymore as the respective message implies:

    > This key is already in use by another appliance. Please help
