A high volume of incoming inventory data can result in the beacon having a large backlog of NDI files at
C:\ProgramData\Flexera Software\Incoming\Inventories.

If you’re using a beacon version earlier than 18.1, you can create a new task in the Windows Task Scheduler app to focus directly on uploading inventory files.

NOTE: For beacon versions 18.1 or later, this task is automatically created for you.

Solution

  1. Open Windows Task Scheduler.
  2. Locate the Upload Flexera logs and inventories task. Select the task. Select Export… to make a copy of the task.
  3. Save the task on your computer.
  4. In Windows Task Scheduler, highlight the task, then select Import Task…Select the task you exported.
  5. Once you’ve reimported the task, you’ll see the Create Task window.
  6. On the General tab, rename the task so you can identify it. The name Upload Flexera Inventories is used in this example.

  1. Open the Actions tab. Select the action from the list, then select Edit…

  1. In the Add arguments field, change the arguments to the following, then select Ok.

-o uploadRule=Inventory -t machine

This will cause the ndupload task to only upload inventory files.

If you see that your backlog is still not decreasing, you can change the settings of this task to run new instances of the task in parallel.

  • Select the task. In the task window, navigate to the Settings tab and select Run a new instance in parallel in the drop-down menu.

This will launch a new instance of the ndupload.exe with the uploadRule=Inventory argument while there is still inventory to upload. It will run additional instances of ndupload.exe simultaneously to help decrease the inventory backlog.
