Conversion from FNMS On-Prem to FNMS Cloud

We are investigating the advantages and disadvantages of moving from on-prem to Flexera One.  We have read the discussion at  https://community.flexera.com/t5/FlexNet-Manager-Forum/Migrate-from-FNMS-OnPremise-to-FNMS-Cloud/td-p/111008 but we have additional questions.

1.  Do we have direct access to query the Cloud DBs?   We have integrations to other systems that currently pull data directly from our on-prem FNMSCompliance and FNMSInventory DBs.  We also write custom queries, joining to tables we've staged in a staging DB, to pull data for clients as needed.

2.  We have several staging databases, for XenApp and business adapters.  Do those DBs stay on-prem?

3.  Are we correct to assume that all beacons stay "as is" and are just re-configured to report into the Batch/Inventory server in the Cloud?

4.  We have many agent versions  installed across the enterprise to cover older operating systems and/or to resolve agent scanning issues.  Are we required to upgrade all agents to a cloud edition, like 18.6.0?

Thanks for any insight that will help us evaluate this potential migration.

Here are some thoughts in response to the particular situations described here:

  1. Direct access to Flexera One ITAM data held in a SQL database or the like is not possible. However some data held in Flexera One ITAM can be accessed through APIs - particularly if the data can be included in a custom report that you configure. Here are a couple of links about APIs in Flexera One:
    1. Getting Started with Flexera One API
    2. IT Asset Management Data API

  2. The short answer is generally yes - staging databases holding data from XenApp or data consumed by business adapters will stay in place on premises. Your beacons will read data from these databases and send them to Flexera One.

Note that Flexera One business adapters  do not have direct access to a destination database that data is being imported into. Business adapters configured for use with FlexNet Manager Suite may contain SQL statements that directly access data in the FlexNet Manager Suite compliance database. This is not possible with Flexera One.

  3. Existing beacons can be re-configured to connect to Flexera One rather than your FlexNet Manager Suite infrastructure. Depending on settings, your beacons may self-upgrade to a beacon version downloaded from Flexera One as soon as they connect.

  4. Old agent versions will work with Flexera One.

It isn't strictly required, but regardless of whether you are using Flexera One or FlexNet Manager Suite it is recommended all agent installations are upgrade to at least the 17.0.1 version in order to mitigate the following vulnerability: FlexNet Inventory Agent and Inventory Beacon Vulnerability Update IOJ-2210678.
