Question
In FlexNet Manager Platform product, the consumption tab of User based license will show "unknown user" of some device with some warning message "
unknown users are consuming against this license."
2. How to avoid "Unknown User" appear of the Device
Answer
Q1:
What does "Unknown User" stand for ?
Answer: ?Unknown user? does not mean that a user isn?t using it (i.e. it is not the same as ?no user?). A common reason for an unknown user appearing is that the user logon account used does not match up to any logon information that has been imported into user records. Some examples of when this would occur are if local computer accounts (not domain accounts) are used to logon, domain accounts are used to logon where those domain account details have not been imported into FNMS, or if blacklisted user accounts (such as ?Administrator?) are used.Q2:
How to avoid "Unknown User" appear of the Devic1. If the device/Hardware asset is currently not used by anyone, please remove the relevant software and follow by a new inventory scan + full license reconcile import to get fresh Device inventory information.
2. If the device/Hardware asset is currently not used by anyone, and by any reason you don't want to remove the installed software before the next user login. You can temporary mark this asset as 'Retired/disposed' . In that case the software consumption won't be calculated on those 'retired/disposed' asset. (You still need run a reconcile only import after you retire the asset. The reconcile import will give you a fresh consumption figure)
3. Make sure the expected user has at least login this machine once. In theory last logon user if captured by inventory tool will be treated as the 'user' rather than N/A (unknown user), then a new inventory scan + full
license reconcile import will give you a 'right' name of current user ....
