  1. Community Voices: Meet Wacky

    Hello Everyone,

We’re launching Community Voices, a series featuring members who share their experience and practical advice in the Flexera Community.

First up is Wacky, a Senior Application Consultant at Grundfos. He shares his experience with Flexera One and explains why data quality matters before reporting.

Read Wacky's story on the Community blog.

What's one tip you have for making sure inventory data is ready for reporting? Share below or leave Wacky a question in the comments.

Thanks @jjoaquin  for being a familiar face in the community and for sharing your experience with us.

The Flexera Content team processes unrecognized evidence into ARL application records. If an application is important to you, we recommend submitting a request to the content team to add it. This will increase the priority of adding the application to the ARL, as the content team prioritizes applications with specific requests.

The steps to suggest updates to the ARL are available in the knowledge base article linked below.

  2. Tag value is empty but RBD still seems to be true when using "does not equal" with no value.

Hi, I'm pretty sure this rule worked fine a week or more ago but currently it is not working as expected any more.

I have resources that don't have a ServiceOwner tag. The rule is to check that "ServiceOwner does not equal (ignore case)" and an empty value in the field.

After that I have a catch-all rule that assigned "Missing Owner" for everything that does not pass the main rule.

However, I get resources that get the rule to deliver an empty value.

Has something changed in the rule evaluation for empty values? Or is there another way to test for resources without a certain tag or an empty value?

    Thanks for any help.

  3. Can a Report Be Triggered by a Change in Value?

    Hi all ...

Below is a sample (redacted) record from a filtered All Licenses report:

Filtered All Licenses ReportIs it possible, in Flexera One, to have this report e-mailed to me, if the value in the shortfall / availability column (the last one in the sample above) changes in the database? Is this scenario feasible?

I was looking at Flexera Analytics (IBM Cognos behind the curtain). Analytics can e-mail reports based on a schedule, and also by the occurrence of a trigger. [Best I can tell, a trigger is some sort of event.] But all the documentation I've seen on Cognos triggers involves running a batch file on the [Cognos?] server to create the trigger, and in the Flexera One world, I do not have access to the Cognos (or Flexera) server. It is also not clear to me, assuming I had server access, how to define the trigger - how might I say "when the value changes, run the report"? The documentation simply says "run this command to set up the trigger" but offers no example of how to define one (for example, the database refresh that the documentation identifies).

Can Flexera Analytics do this? If not, can anyone suggest some other method of meeting this requirement?

One non-perfect answer is to simply have the report e-mailed daily. Setting up the daily schedule looks straightforward. But it was pointed out to me that I'd be getting the same report daily with no way to know that something has changed. With the automation use case, I'd get the report only when something changed. I'd have to examine the report to see what changed, but at least, I'd get the report only when necessary, so I'd know that a change occurred.

I'm looking for a better solution and am interested in your suggestions. Thank you!

Here is the response I received from Support on this question:

I do not believe there is a way to send out the report if a specific value has changed unfortunately.

You may be able to find what you are looking for on the ITAM side via the API and include maybe some PowerShell to automate sending you an email if value x > y or whatever condition you may need.

The trigger option would only be for on-premise installations since a trigger based schedule allows a report to execute only when an external trigger file is placed in a designated directory.

It does not evaluate report data or expressions. You cannot define a condition inside Cognos to act as a trigger it must be handled externally.

Essentially if the file 'RunMyReport.bat' is found in the C:\...\trigger folder on the Cognos server then the report assigned to it would be run and emailed out to its distribution list.

    • Why not using Flexera One Automation Policies in combination with custom reports and the Flexera One ITAM API? :)

...It's like a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma... but should work :) Tested it by myself :)

  4. License Marked as AI in All Licenses Tab Not Returned in Custom Report created for AI Licenses

In our Flexera One, we have a dedicated column for AI (which can be filled with Yes/No) for All Licenses tab. I have also attached the reference image for the same. All the AI licenses procured have the AI column filled as Yes.Now the issue is that when I created a custom report which gives me the list of all licenses with AI selected as Yes, this particular license is not coming in the report. What could be the reason behind this? For further information, this particular license is coming from the Flexera One SaaS ConnectorCustom Report with no ServiceNow licenseAll Licenses with AI Colunm
