Happy Ides of March, and what an auspicious occasion it is! Take a look at the amazing news below in a letter from our CEO, Jim Ryan.

Valued Flexera Customer,

I have exciting news to share with you. Effective March 15, 2022, Flexera and IBM announce a deeper partnership that will benefit our customers and continue our momentum as the market leader for technology value optimization. Many of our customers have significant investments in IBM software and we believe a strong yet unbiased relationship with IBM will benefit our customer base.

The Flexera and IBM partnership includes three newsworthy elements explained in more detail below:

  1. Certification: Flexera One’s IT Asset Management (ITAM) is now a certified alternative for ILMT
  2. Integration: IBM Turbonomic integration to balance performance with licensing considerations
  3. OEM agreement: IBM can now resell Flexera One (marketed as Flexera One with IBM Observability)

First, Flexera One ITAM is now certified as an IBM License Management Tool (ILMT) alternative and an IBM license audit exception is not required for new or existing ITAM customers. Prior to this announcement, Flexera was the only approved ILMT replacement; however, it required a specific Passport Advantage addendum and was approved on a customer-by-customer basis.

This announcement takes the friction out of the approval process for customers inside or outside IBM’s IASP program. Most importantly, customers can now leverage Flexera One’s SaaS-based delivery model for both reporting and optimizing their software portfolio with IBM and other strategic vendors like Microsoft, Oracle, SAP and Salesforce.

Second, Flexera and IBM co-developed API and policy integration between IBM Turbonomic and Flexera One ITAM. This integration provides unprecedented capabilities to optimize both performance and costs by using licensed resources in the most favorable manner (for example, moving Windows Server VMs to the best possible host to minimize licensing requirements).

The integrated solutions provide unmatched application, real-time visibility and automation to manage risk of license compliance while optimizing performance, controlling costs and accelerating the AIOps journey. The integration capabilities are available now at no charge to Flexera + IBM Turbonomic customers. We’re also planning additional integrations with IBM solutions to support additional use cases, so watch this space.

Third, IBM can now OEM/resell Flexera One solutions to help their customers proactively optimize licensing for IBM and other vendors across on-prem, SaaS and cloud. Note that this OEM agreement will not impact how you’re doing business with Flexera today. IBM will go to market with the brand name “Flexera One with IBM Observability” in their AI solution portfolio. Together, IBM and Flexera will provide automated license compliance and resource optimization while optimizing business application performance and significantly reducing the total cost of ownership of IT investments including software, SaaS, and infrastructure from on-premises and cloud. This go-to-market motion with IBM should further increase your confidence that Flexera is uniquely qualified to solve difficult challenges like IBM sub-capacity licensing.
