The WiseScript Package Editor was added to the AdminStudio suite of tools in AdminStudio 2018 R3 after hearing from several customers that they have been using the tool for more than a decade to wrap deployment packages. This EXE wrapping functionality was added to AdminStudio leveraging the WiseScript Package Editor and the script templates to wrap packages into EXE format as an alternative to PowerShell (PSADT). The WiseScript Package Editor has not seen any new features or enhancements for many years. However, we continue to keep the tool on maintenance in response to the many customers that wish to continue relying upon the WiseScript Package Editor for their daily packaging needs.
The tool was built using the technologies that have become dated over time, and so has a dependency on the following software components that have reached “end of life” status:
These end-of-life components were included in the AdminStudio setup installer in support of WiseScript Package Editor. In AdminStudio 2022 release, we have spent significant effort to identify such dated and/or end-of-life software components in the AdminStudio setup to update them to a new version and drop the older version from the setup to improve the overall security posture of AdminStudio. In order to drop the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 and 2012 redistributables, we ultimately had to remove WiseScript Package Editor from the AdminStudio setup.
As a result, starting from AdminStudio 2022, WiseScript Package Editor will not be installed by AdminStudio. Instead, a standalone setup of the tool has been made available in the Flexera Product and License Center for you to download and install separately if desired. Note that the EXE wrapping feature will continue to be present in AdminStudio, but wrapping to EXE format, will remain disabled unless WiseScript Package Editor is separately installed on the device.
Please follow the below steps to download the WiseScript Package Editor standalone setup file for installation:
