  1. Bill Split RBD Scoping by Bill Source or Cloud Account Identifier

As part of ongoing platform optimization, we have refined the scope of Bill Split Rule-Based Dimensions (RBDs). Bill Split configuration is now limited to a defined set of dimensions that directly map cloud spend to customer ownership.

This change reduces configuration complexity and helps ensure more consistent and predictable cost allocation, while aligning Bill Split behavior with its intended usage.

    Key Changes

Restricted Dimensions for Bill Split . Bill Split configuration now supports only these dimensions:

    • Cloud Vendor Account (multi-select)
    • Bill Source (multi-select)
    • Billing Account ID (multi-select)
    • CSP Tenant ID (multi-select)

    Business Benefits

    • Clearer Allocation Logic: Simplifies configuration by limiting dimensions to those that directly represent customer-level spend.
    • Improved Accuracy: Reduces unnecessary complexity and supports consistent, predictable billing outcomes.
    • Streamlined Experience: Scales across MSP and enterprise use cases while minimizing configuration overhead and ambiguity.

    To Use This Update

    1. Navigate to Administration > Cloud Settings > Rule-Based Dimensions
    2. Select Bill Split RBD
    3. Create or edit a rule; note that only the restricted dimensions are available for selection
    4. Use multi-select and search within dropdowns for faster configuration

  2. Feature Update: Bill Splitting for Managed Service Providers in Flexera One

We’re excited to announce the release of a new capability for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) - an enhanced Bill Splitting UI that simplifies cost allocations for their customers.

    This latest release introduces:

    • Modern and intuitive Bill Splitting experience
    • Multi-select functionality across key dimensions
    • Searchable dropdowns with a ‘create’ option for adding new values
    • Ability to insert rules at specific positions
    • Intelligent rule merging for streamlined management

These improvements simplify complex billing workflows for MSPs and significantly reduce manual effort.

    Key Capabilities

    1. Multi-Select Support Across Dimensions - MSPs would be able to select multiple values at once for dimensions like:

    • Cloud Vendor Account
    • Billing Account ID
    • Bill Source
    • CSP Customer Tenant ID

    2. Improved User Experience for Scale and Usability

    • Search enabled dropdowns support both Account Names and Account Ids
    • ‘Create’ option to manually add custom values if they are not already present.
    • Tooltips and inline guidance reduce errors during setup.
    • Auto-scroll and highlight make it easy to find new or updated rules in large lists.

    3. Enhancements to RBDs

    • Providing a capability to insert a rule at a specific position within the rule list with "Create New Rule After" feature.
    • Rule Merge Intelligence – When a new rule matches an existing dimension and child organization, and is adjacent, the system automatically merges the values into the existing rule instead of creating new.
    • A confirmation message explains the merge, including its reason and position.

  3. Flexera is excited to announce the release of new MSP-enabled features to enhance how they manage their customers and their cloud bills.  There are several new features to allow Partners to scale the management of their customers through the APIs and Flexera One UI.  Below is a summary of the features released:

    Customers

The new Customers feature allows the MSP to manage their customers on Flexera One.   This new interface makes it easy for the MSP to view, create, edit, and delete their customers without needing the Flexera One MSP Customer API.

    Bill Splitting

Bill Splitting is a powerful feature that allows the MSP to choose how to split a shared cloud bill to the customers using their portion of the bill.  This feature uses the Rule Based Dimensions to define how the bill is split using various fields from the bill such as the payer id. cloud account, or other dimensions.

    Price Books

Price Books allows the MSP to configure billing rules to manage the discounts their customers get.  The MSP often receives discounts from major cloud service providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. These discounts allow the partners to adjust their pricing based on the contract with their customers. Typically, the MSP passes on a portion of the discount to their customers while retaining a part to cover operational costs and maintain profitability. For example, if an MSP receives a 15 percent discount from AWS, it may pass only a 10 percent discount to the customer, while retaining 5 percent to cover operational costs.

    Aggregated Cost Visibility

MSPs are now able to see the total spend attached to the parent org and filter down to the customer spend using the Rule Based Dimensions created for Bill Splitting.  Additionally, the MSP can see the cost they are paying for the cloud spend and how much customers are paying via their price book billing rules.

The Cloud menu is updated to focus on MSP-centric use cases such as

    •  Tabular View – to view the cloud spend attached to the Parent organization
    •  Price Books – manages the discounts the customer receives on their cloud bill.

For more details on newly enabled features please visit the Getting Started With Managed Service Provider Capabilities documentation.

(These changes are being rolled out to existing customers through April 2025. After April all Flexera MSPs will have these changes.)
