Best Approach to Network Discovery for Large Networks?

We have a large University Network - so several class B subnets (one private, one public - Uni's were spoilt back in the day!) divided into many class C subnet/VLANs (Hundreds).  

 

So for anyone who's dealt with this - can it be done, if so best approach - list ALL the class C subnets or just the two class Bs? Can the timing of the scans be managed (we currently have a in house scan running, but it only looks at a few subnets per day) - what's the traffic load look like...

 

Appreciate am likely to miss MAC address family info as it's all routed, but am interested in collecting info on "Unmanaged" (Non Domain Joined) PCs and Macs...

    we are testing this as well with multiple subnet definitions.

     

    The scan time can be managed in the Inventory config file. That means the start time of the scan can be defined. So just one start time for all subnet scans. Not one per scan.

     

    I’m curious if someone can provide us advise on this.
