Upgrading to Inventory 6

Has anyone had any experience with upgrading to Inventory 6 yet?  I'm looking to raise some changes internally to do the upgrade on one of our environments from Inventory 5 to Inventory 6, and I'm wondering what kind of time frame people have experienced?  Avg. of your device count would be helpful as well.

  • We have 20k devices and 14k users. The upgrade took about 40 min. It requires a lot of space for the log. We had to increase twice the space to get it done. Easy to retry if it fails. Alain

Hi all, the Inventory DB transaction log need addational space during the upgrade. You can calculate the estimated size with follow formula:  (Total SnowInventory DB size) * 0.5 + (SnowInventory.inv.DataMetering size + SnowInventory.inv.DataMeteringConcurrency size) * 2.85 This is a temporary need that can be reduced to the original size after the update.  After the update the Snow Inventory Server 6 Database can grow and to be permanently larger by max. 20%. • Compared to the former upgrade Inventory 3 to Inventory 5 this upgrade from 5 to 6 is very easy and quick. You need to request a new license key for SI 6 from your local Snow team. I would always recommend to do a backup of the database before you start the installation. Also check the system requirements, and as Siggi and Alain mentioned you need more disk space. After you added the license key in SUS you can start the installation. For us it took around 2 hours (44k computers) If you have some custom procedures or sql scripts based on SnowInventory database, you should check if they need some changes.

  • Just keep an eye on DB size and if there is any space issues.  We have 95% on version 6 now (22K devices).
