Agents with SIOS and OpenJava
Hi everybody, all our distributed agents (for servers) are enabled to scan Oracle databases (   -   platforms: Windows and Unix (Linux, AIX, Solaris).   Prerequisite for the Oracle script is Java - we're currently investigating to move from Oracle Java to   - this should technically be more or less the same, but with less dependencies from a licensing perspective (supported JAVA SE advanced installation vs. JAVA SE Public). Are there already any experiences on agent behaviour/requirements if utilizing Open Java ? Thx, Martin

Hi, support confirmed officially. Please have a look to the newest system requirements documentation. ServiceNow   BR Michael
    • Hi Michael, I cannot access that page. Although I add my login credentials, I get following note "Security constraints prevent access to requested page" Is this document for Snow internal use only ?
      • Hi, here is the Update from the Snow Requirement Sheet for Oracle Scanner

Thanks Lars! Exactly this I was up to. This is both valid for SIOS and SIAU.

Hello, according to our system requirements, we only need the JRE in specific versions to run UNIX agents and the Snow Inventory Oracle Scanner (SIOS) with all agents applicable. Java Runtime Environment 6.0 (1.6) or higher NOTE: Java Runtime Environment 1.7.0_7 must not be used I'm no Java expert, but the JRE should be the same, no matter what the source is, right? ?, do you have experience with JREs from Open Java? Best regards, Alex ?

Hi ‌, do you have a link to the Software vendor? Afaik, only the JRE is required, not a JDK.

Hi ‌, as said before, we do not need the Development Kit, only the Runtime Environment.
          • The link given to JDK will give you links/info to donwload/Install  _just_ the JRE as well. see e.g.:  OpenJDK: Download and install   What is the difference between openjdk-7-jre-headless VS openjdk-7-jre? - Stack Overflow   You may even download/install the so called 'headless' JRE, which is intended as lightweight JRE for servers and programs which don't need support for user-GUI (like sios.jar). To me that's a 'perfect' candidate for:  a) an 'embedded JRE' approach when deploying sios.jar b) prevent any licensing issue that may exist while using some Orale JRE  (avoiding license issues should be of interest of SNOW as well!). Can anyone from snow confirm, that OpenJDK (headless-)JREs will be OK and supported by snow for running/using sios.jar?
