ARL Content Change: Exchange Server Subscription Edition (SE) Recognition Changes 

Overview 

Microsoft treats Exchange Server Subscription Edition (SE) as the product version and not as a licensing edition. To align with Microsoft's published product model and improve consistency of recognition, Flexera is updating the Application Recognition Library (ARL) recognition logic for Exchange Server Subscription Edition 

Microsoft's latest Exchange Server release is identified as Exchange Server Subscription Edition (SE). In this naming convention, SE represents the product version name rather than a separate edition. The available licensing editions continue to be Standard and Enterprise. 

Current Behaviour 

Some Exchange Server Subscription Edition evidence may currently be recognized under application records where the edition is represented as Subscription, while other evidence is mapped based on the Standard or Enterprise edition information available within the raw inventory evidence. 

Planned Change 

To provide consistent recognition and align with Microsoft's definitions, ARL will introduce the following application models: 

Inventory evidence containing Exchange Server Subscription Edition information will be mapped to the appropriate application based on the edition details available within the evidence.  

When inventory evidence does not contain sufficient information to determine whether the installation is Standard or Enterprise, the application will be recognized as Unspecified edition until additional details are available. 

Customer Impact & Recommended actions 

• More accurate differentiation between Standard and Enterprise editions of Exchange Server Subscription Edition, leading to improved alignment with vendor naming conventions. 
• Standard and Enterprise editions continue to be recognized separately where edition information is available. Customers may observe application name changes in reports, dashboards and inventories however the update is not intended to introduce new license editions or alter Microsoft licensing definitions. 
• No specific customer action recommended. Flexera will automatically apply the updated recognition through the ARL release. Customers do not need to change inventory collection, inventory settings, or recognition configurations. Existing evidence will be recognized using the updated application model after the ARL update is applied.

ARL Release Date 

This change is planned for inclusion in the ARL release scheduled for 09th October 2026 and will be documented in the corresponding ARL release notes.
