Snow Inventory Agent for Mac OS X scheduled scanning does not run
Scheduled scans may fail to run consistently on Snow Inventory Agent for Mac OS X. While manual scans work correctly and upload data to the server, scheduled scans can stop working due to plist configuration issues.
Environment
- Snow Inventory Agent for OS X v5.1.0
- Apple OS X Sierra (v10.12.6)
- Snow Inventory Server 5.x
Solution
Follow these steps to reload the scheduling configuration and restore scheduled scanning:
Open Terminal on the affected Mac OS X machine.
Stop the Snow Inventory Agent job with:
sudo launchctl stop com.snowsoftware.Inventory
Start the Snow Inventory Agent job again with:
Shell
sudo launchctl start com.snowsoftware.Inventory
To solve this permanently for additional machines, create a new Mac OS deployment package that ensures correct scheduling settings. Scheduling of the agent is controlled entirely by the operating system.
Outcome:
Scheduled scanning resumes on the affected device. Correct packaging ensures scheduling works across multiple devices.
