Snow License Manager not reporting Snow Inventory Agent patch versions
Software companies typically use semantic versioning to track changes to software over time. This method of version provides an indication of the major version, minor version, and patch version of applications, using the format:
- major.minor,patch
For example, for Snow Inventory Agent for Windows 7.0.2 this means when considering the version number:
- 7 is major
- 0 is minor
- 2 is patch
For some applications, Snow License Manager (SLM) only reports the major/minor versions, and does not display the patch version. The behavior can be reliably observed looking at the Snow Inventory Agent for Windows, where only the major/minor versions will be visible when using Search for Applications and across all SLM reports.
Selecting a specific computer in 'Search for computers' and viewing its installed applications will also only show major/minor versions for licensing prepossess:
Checking the Snow Inventory Agent binaries confirms the complere version number for the installation is 7.0.2:
The data is still collected, and can be viewed by checking a computer's Information tab.
To do so:
- Login to SLM and browse to Computers > Search for computers.
- Search for and select a computer and switch to its Information tab.
The same information can be viewed in the Identified files section:
- Login to SLM and browse to Computers > Search for computers.
- Search for and select a computer and click Edit > Identified files.
- Expand the Snow Inventory Agent entry.
