Enable logging for a running SVM Daemon
This article describes how to enable verbose logging for the Software Vulnerability Manager (SVM) Daemon service. Verbose logging can be useful when troubleshooting scheduled tasks, inventory imports, synchronization activities, and other operations executed by the Daemon service.
Instructions
Enable verbose Daemon logging
-
Sign in to Windows using an account with administrative privileges.
-
Open Registry Editor.
-
Navigate to:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Flexera Corporate Software Inspector Daemon
-
Edit the ImagePath value and append the following logging parameters: -d "C:\Logs\Daemon.log" -v -v -v
-
For example:"C:\Program Files\Flexera Software\Corporate Software Inspector Daemon\daemon.exe" --service-launch -d "C:\Logs\Daemon.log" -v -v -v
-
Save the registry changes.
-
Restart the Flexera Corporate Software Inspector Daemon service.
Outcome
After the service restarts:
- The log file is created in the specified location.
- New log entries are written to the file.
- Scheduled Daemon activities generate diagnostic information that you can review for warnings and errors.
Common issues identified through Daemon logs
Daemon logs can help you identify:
- Insufficient permissions for the Daemon service account.
- SQL connectivity issues.
- ODBC configuration issues.
- Proxy configuration problems.
- Authentication failures.
- Communication issues between the Daemon service and SVM services.
- Scheduled task execution failures.
Important
If the Daemon service does not start after you modify the registry, verify the ImagePath value for:
- Missing quotation marks.
- Invalid file paths.
- Formatting errors.
After collecting the required diagnostic information:
- Remove the additional logging parameters from the service configuration.
- Restore any modified logging settings to their default values.
- Restart the Daemon service.
Verbose logging should only be enabled temporarily during troubleshooting.
