Hello, I am updating an older install (actually several) from 2012 to 2014 (A MS update broke something and they all need rework) and noticed that Microsoft Chart Control 6.0 was no longer available as a redistributable. (Yes I know MSChart is not great, I have been trying to get the dialog that uses it removed from our products since 2007, just running into marketing inertia, stubbornness). So does anyone know a way around this? Can I get redistributable added back in, download a package from Installshield to add it back? Thoughts? I realize I could go the non-kosher route of just including mschrt20.ocx to our install and it would work, but I really want to do this correctly. Thanks

Michael, Thankyou for your help on this. Removing the action from the system context worked to a point. Sadly, the script is for setting up an OEM camera we have made by a third party vendor. The camera for setup needs the script to execute in the System Context. Fun, fun, long story short, I took a hard look at why the registry was used and by rewriting this script was able to do what was needed to this camera without passing items through the registry. Thankyou Again Kevin Flanagan Of course I did manage to break other things, but that will be a future post 😉

Micheal, So you are saying use something other than Deferred Execution in System Context, like maybe plane Deferred Execution. I will play around with that field and report back if successful.

Sigh, On Installshield 2014 (btw. issue also affects 2012) I am having issues with reading registry CURRENT_USER subkeys when KB3072630 is installed. Specifically in InstallScript, RegDBKeyExist( ) and RegDBGetKeyValueEx( ) both fail. I used the directions in KB3072630 to disable it and these functions again work. I tried the hotfix suggested by MichealU for DCostello's similar issue. No dice, updating the IsLockPermissions.dll with the hotfix did not work. Any thoughts of what I can do, The value I need is place in the registry with a Custom Action "After CostFinalize", and then used for a set of custom action that execute After DuplicateFiles. I have verified the value is still being written to the registry, I just can no longer read it. Is there a different/better way to pass the two strings, or a way to get RegDBGetKeyValueEx to work. I do not want to be disabling KB3072630 on end user machines. (KB3072630 work around is described in the patch: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3072630 ) (Installsheild 2015 hotfix for IsLockPermissions.dll: https://flexeracommunity.force.com/customer/articles/en_US/ISSUE/ISDEV-Windows-Update-KB3072630-causes-Registry-permission-changes-to-HKCU-to-fail )

However since we had to hard code the word "everyone" in the command line, we had problems running our software on non-english operating systems. I am now trying to use "SetACL.exe" instead. Any luck with SetACL.exe? A good percentage of our hardware sales are overseas, so I really do need an international solution. We are having no luck with this on our end. The solutions work great under XP, but under Vista, not so much. Thanks...

Apologies if this has been beat to death, we are moving our installs from express 12 to 2009 Pro and have come across an odd thing I need a fix for. I need to be able to set folder permission for our software so it runs properly under vista. We create a folder in [CommonAppDataFolder], for this post lets call it [CommonAppDataFolder]\MyProduct and I need to give everyone full control of this folder (read, write, delete), it is where we store the calibration data for our external hardware, and the data can not be stored in the user profiles. The calibration data is updated is updated reegularly by the general users. Does anyone know of a way to set the folder permissions through 2009 Pro? Thanks. Kevin

What is going on is we have an instrument that comes with software and has four flavors of features (think of it as a microscope that comes with either 2.5x,4x,5x,10x mag) and all use the same .ini file with slight differences in it (lets say the mag. key is different). Now I would be happy with these four cases using four different installers, but we live in a world where marketing decides and manufacturing doesn't want the shipper to think. So they want a single installer that has a dialog in it that asks the end user which flavor of hardware he has. What I originally wanted to do with express 12 was have separate features in the install (each has a different copy of the .ini) and add entry types to the setup types for each flavor. That doesn't work, it does not like having different versions of the same file that go to the same location. My next thought was to have separate data directories [ComAppDataFolder] (Product_Feature1, Product_Feature2, Product_Feature3, and Product_Feature4 directories) with unique shortcuts that have a working directory that points to the particular directory of the feature. Two problems, One I don't see how to conditionally install shortcuts and two run into the same problem with the dialog. So is this something I can do in an express version, need to upgrade to a more advanced version, or go give marketing my best impression of squeezing blood out of a turnip (Though upgrading to a more advanced version of install shield might be a similar act with purchasing).

Hello, I am currently using Installshield express 12 and debating upgrading to a newer version to meet some install needs we have. The issue (which I do not see how to do with express 12) is we need to be able to able to prompt a user to select one of four configurations and then tailor (or swap in) an ini file based on this selection. I do not currently see how to do this with 12, is it possible to do with the express version of 2009, or do I have to go to an even more advanced package. Clues on how to do this under 2009 (or better yet 12) would be most welcome. Thanks.
