Localized files are now being delivered even though the condition for the feature does not match the language of the machine. Our Chinese runtime files are being delivered and the Arabic files are being delivered to the same location. The machine that the product is being installed on is English. The features that deliver the Chinese and Arabic files test the UserLanguageID against the codes for Chinese and Arabic. It is as if the conditions are always evaluating to True and the files are always delivered. We have isolated the problem to builds after December 2019. Before that we never had this problem. Neither the product .ism file nor the .dim files that contain the localized files have changed. We were wondering if some Windows Update may be causing a problem. Has anyone else seen something similar?

InstallShield Legacy Versions

I created a DIM file by exporting components from an existing .ism file. Then I built the DIM file successfully. The .msi from the DIM file build has the exported components with files and looks good. Ran the unit test .msi file and the files were installed. I then removed exported components from the feature in my .ism and added the DIM refrence to my .ism and associated it with the feature. Built the .ism with no errors. The .msi built from the main installer .ism does not have the components that are in the DIM file. No one else here has ever tried to export to DIMs. They have always built DIMs from scratch. What is the magic to make exporting components to a DIM file actually work and install files?

I add MyTestProperty in Property Manager and initialize to the value true. In the User Interface sequence (before the SetupProgress dialog): I set MyTestProperty via a Set Property custom action to the value false. I display MyTestProperty via InstallScript custom action using SprintfBox() and I see that the value is false. In the Execute sequence (first action): I display MyTestProperty via InstallScript custom action using SprintfBox() and I see that the value is true. Is there no way to set a property in the UI sequence and be able to use that value in the Execute sequence?

I had to build my own prereq for .NET Framework 2.0 x86. My setup includes both 32 bit and 64 bit versions as prereqs. The reason I do not use the release settings to get the 32 bit version is because my setup requires the .NET Framework to be available before files are copied because those files get loaded into the GAC and my setup uses gacutil.exe to remove the previous versions.:)

Does the prereq check for condition(s) prior to installing? Does the prereq actually install? The condition(s) still may not be met after the install and a warning is displayed saying that it may have failed. You may need to edit the prereq to correct the condition(s).

When you are navigating through the releases view, you should see a dilaog titled "Setup Launcher". In this dialog box there is a drop down list for "MSI Engine Version".

You can do all of the checking and installing of dotnet 2.0 (dotnetfx.exe) with a prerequisite. No need for system search, binary table or custom action. And the entry "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0" appears in "Add or Remove Programs".

OK, now I have resolved this. I was having trouble downloading merge modules so I copied the IS 11.5 version to IS 2008. This was a mistake. I was finally able to download the files directly from http://www.macrovision.com/downloads.htm. Now that I have the IS 2008 version of this merge module I no longer see those annoying dialogs.

I get a dialog (attached) at run time if I include the redistributable for DCOM95. The dialog appears twice and must be dismissed each time in order for the setup to continue. This does not happen in IS 11.5 but does happen in IS 2008. This is annoying but not critical. I just have no explanation for this behavior. Can anyone else reproduce this? The title in the dialog is the product name.

No, you do not have to build an InstallScript project. You can build an InstallScript Custom Action. See Installation Designer->Behavior and Logic->Custom Actions in the InstallShiled IDE. See the help topic "Using InstallScript" for an explanation of how, "To author an InstallScript custom action and execute it in your installation."

You can use an InstallScript Custom Action to control the "next" button. You will need to do some programming to detect which features are selected using calls to "FeatureIsItemSelected ( szFeatureSource, szFeature )" and then calls to "Disable(NEXTBUTTON)" and "Enable(NEXTBUTTON)".
