Further Accessibility Improvements
With the Spider 6.4.7 release, further improvements for accessibility are addressed in addition to those of Spider 6.4.6. This includes several functional and design changes.
Grid and table views
Grid and table views can be used with the keyboard to navigate through rows and cells.
As soon as a grid gets focused, the following keys can be used for navigation:
Key | Description |
Right Arrow | Move one cell to the right until you reach the last cell in the row |
Left Arrow | Move one cell to the left until you reach the first cell in the row |
Down Arrow | Move one cell down until you reach the last row |
Up Arrow | Move one cell up until you reach the first row |
Page Down | If there is paging available, get to the next result page of the grid |
Page Up | If there is paging available, get to the previous page of the grid |
Home | Moves focus to the first cell of the current row |
End | Moves focus to the last cell of the current row |
Control + Home | Moves focus to the first cell in the first row |
Control + End | Moves focus to the last cell in the last row |
If sorting is enabled in a grid or table view, the header cells are selectable with the cursor keys, pressing the Enter key will trigger sorting of the current column.
Page source and structure
To improve experience with screen readers and other accessibility tools, the page structure has been changed to provide better content formatting as well as quicker access to different parts of the Spider pages via external navigation tools.
Contrast enhancements
The web user interface has been modified to achieve WCAG compliant contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1. Therefore styles in backstage menu, ribbon, links, texts, and other controls have been adjusted.
Backstage menu
The backstage menu is now fully operable with keyboard controls, stepping through the tiles with the TAB key has been enabled. Menu items can be selected the ENTER key.
