Setting FLEXLM_TIMEOUT in the registry

Jump to solution

Where is FLEXLM_TIMEOUT read from and in what order?

1. system environment variable:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment

2. local environment variable:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Environment\

3. FLEXlm special registry location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FLEXlm License Manager\

If all three are set to different values, which one is used?

Thanks

Thanks. I will update FLEXLM_TIMEOUT in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FLEXlm License Manager\  if needed.

(And if FLEXLM_TIMEOUT already exists as an environment variable under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, I will delete it so it doesn't interfere)

Hi @sciencelab-22  ,

Since general users don't have the right to write to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE we always access HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FLEXlm License Manager\  .

btw, this seems backwards to the usual way to cascade control to users.

It would be better if the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE value is read only if the HKEY_CURRENT_USER does not exist, so users can adjust the value for themselves. If they want the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE default value, they can simply delete their HKEY_CURRENT_USER value.
