Extended support

Hello everybody,

My team struggles how to define purchases that are extended support for an already existing license.

We were thinking to input those as software subscription and add extra entitlements for a license manually, however, we are not sure whether license count would be done correctly.

Any suggestions on how to differentiate extended support purchase out of others?

Many thanks

(1) Solution

If this Software License represents a "perpetual" license with annual maintenance that must be purchased, then the process would be to:

1) Create a new Purchase record that represents the purchase of annual maintenance.  The Purchase Type would be set to "Software Maintenance".  You would then set the Effective Date and Expiry Date of the purchase to represent when this maintenance purchase starts and ends.

2) This purchase would be linked to the existing license.  No new Entitlements/Purchases are represented by this new purchase, and it will show a new Expiration Date of active maintenance for the license.

Hello kclausen,

I do understand the solution but what if the "extended support" is an additional purchase which is an addon on the current maintenance. If you add it to the same license, then you will have a double count of the maintenance, which is not reflecting it correctly. Right now I'm having using two solutions on this as a work around. Is one of them this also the solution Flexera is preferring ?

1) Create the extended support maintenance on the normal way and add it to the existing license. Now you will see a double maintenance count. Disable now this extended support maintenance purchase on the license and put in the comment of the license why you have disabled it (to prevent double account maintenance count in this special situation). Also put in the name of the license now  Extended support so it will catch you eye if you make a list of the licenses.

2) Create the extended support maintenance on the normal way and add it to a new license. Give the name of this license exactly the name of the normal license and also add Extended support to it.  Remove the application so it cannot calculate consumption on this one. This license will only be used as registration as long as this temporary situation will last.

Sometimes the extended support have also different use right like you are not allowed to do update but only allowed to do patches. Then you have to change this also temporarily as long as this situation last in the license rights. This can only be done and works in situation 1.
