What are the reasons you would prefer one over the other? You shouldn't pick a new technology unless you have some reason, and as most businesses are driven by money, that would be the likely primary driver. Seeing as IS is something you pay for and Wix is not, they will have to evaluate that as well as the ongoing maintenance costs of making the change (IS is not cheap).

Now comes even more fun. The build server that took me 1.5 days to get SAB installed on isn't "in synch" with my local PC's version of IS Prem install. So I now I have to update our SAB by completely uninstalling and reinstalling with an update SAB installer. And guess what? I get to go through the key process ... again. This is insane and needs to be removed.

You may be attempting to overwrite a file already present, but which is locked by another process. In that situation, the MSI Service notes that and triggers the appropriate actions. Refer to the "System Reboots" section of the Windows Installer help to get more detailed info on the actions and properties involved.

Thanks to your first post I came to the same conclusion that it must be an msi. It turns out to be an InstallScript MSI. I ran the install and extracted the msi from the temp folder, cracked it open and got the upgrade code. I was then able to add a major upgrade item. This deleted everything but the add/remove programs entry. I had to delete that manually. It even deleted the InstallShieldInformation stuff. Weird. Thanks for the hint, It helped me get this fixed. Sometimes you just need a different look at a problem.
