The Beacon connection is attempted to https://<your beacon server>/ManagesoftRL. Have you checked whether this is responding? Open a browser from one of the target machines having an issue and enter this URL: https://<your beacon server>/ManagesoftRL/Test. If the Beacon is working properly, you should see "Test succeeded" in the browser. Have you also checked the Beacon logs (Beacon Engine, BeaconIIS)? Link to logging reference --Mark

Hi all ... I deployed the Flexnet Inventory Agent to a mac. Installation completed successfully. It received its initial policy and schedule from the bootstrap Inventory Beacon. The agent logs all look fine. About 12 hours later, the agent woke up to determine if there are any changes to the policy, as it's supposed to. But upon waking up, there was no longer a connection to any Inventory Beacon because the mac was no longer on the network that has the Inventory Beacons. When this happens, does the agent still have its original schedule? Is inventory collection supposed to run according to the schedule initially downloaded, even if there's no network connection to an Inventory Beacon at the moment and it can't be uploaded right away? Or does this condition prevent the mac agent from running initial inventory because even though it obtained an initial schedule, it couldn't check the schedule for updates so it considers the schedule to be invalid somehow? I thought I'd see inventory collection occur with no upload, but instead I don't see a tracker.log file at all, telling me that Inventory collection never ran. --Mark

Hi all ... In the on-line help, in the document "One Inventory Beacon or Many", it says: " For good performance, limit each beacon to about 10 , 000 devices that it will inventory directly or through the installed FlexNet inventory agent . ". In the Upgrade Guide for FNMS 2022 R1 On-Prem, page 10, under "Fan Out", it says: "Provide one inventory beacon for every 20,000 (or so) devices with the locally-installed FlexNet inventory agent." What is the current recommendation for the number of devices per inventory beacon? --Mark

Great link @JingQian , thank you! Now I know which log to check in the future. I was able to figure this out out today without having to go to the logs. It turned out that this one user had login issues to other systems using the same single sign-on id. The solution was to have the end user restart his laptop (using the "restart" choice from the Windows menu). Initially, he shut down and turned the machine back on, but laptops nowadays are configured for "fast startup" and an actual reboot of the machine doesn't really occur until a full restart is initiated. He had some system updates that were pending that seemed to get in the way. Once these updates were applied, the issue was resolved.

Hi all ... My on-prem FNMS 2019 R1 server is set up to use single sign-on and has been working just fine for quite some time. I now have one user who can't log in. When he attempts to access the FNMS server, he gets prompted for an id/password, which isn't supposed to happen when the server is configured for single sign-on. What logs can I check to troubleshoot this? The troubleshooting page in the on-line help doesn't discuss this. --Mark

Hi @mfranz ... I'm confident this will work. What I want to make sure is that Flexera will support me if I have to open a support ticket on an agent - beacon issue with this configuration. While I'm very sure I won't have an issue, I'd rather find this out now before a real need arises. --Mark

Hi all ... My inventory beacons, at the moment, are still at 2019 R1 and will be upgraded in the short term (within three months, I hope). I'd like to deploy new agents using the current release. During this transition period, some agents would be "newer" than the inventory beacon. Is a newer 2021/22 R1 agent working with a 2019 R1 inventory beacon a supported configuration by Flexera? --Mark

Hi all ... It is written in the documentation that if you delete an inventory connection, any data associated with that connection is also deleted. I have an inventory adapter with an SCCM connection running on an inventory beacon that is due for retirement (migrating off Windows 2012 R2). The same is true for the AD Import. My plan is to disable this inventory adapter on the older beacon and recreate this adapter on the new beacon with the same name. Same for the AD Import. Will this maintain the connection's history (i.e. not delete the whole thing and start over, simply continue where it leaves off in terms of adds, updates and deletes)? Second question, does the Inventory Beacon UI allow you to export an existing connection from one beacon and import it into another? I temporarily don't have access to a beacon to log into the UI and examine this for myself. Thanks as always! --Mark

Ahhh, when I tried the direct upgrade approach (no uninstall before running the upgraded MSI), the process seemed to hang, and at that time, I did not know that this was expected behavior. I thought it was an incompatibility of some sort. Thank you for pointing this out.

The link you provided is perfect, thank you. Do you know if a list of the deletion product codes exists for recent versions of the agent? I could see modifying the .vbs file in the provided link to see if certain versions of the agent are installed, and if they exist, to uninstall the existing version first. (I could log onto computers with different agent versions to get this info, but was hoping that a previously published list was available). The only lists I see map versions like "2022 R1" to "18.0.x". --Mark

Hi all ... I have FNMS agents from FNMS 2019 R1 that I'd like to upgrade to FNMS 2022 R1. The plan is to use a third party deployment tool; probably SCCM (Windows) and JAMF (Mac) but at this point I am not certain. Is there a specific upgrade package that needs to be downloaded from the Product & License center for this? If there isn't a specific package, do your deployment scripts basically uninstall the current version and then install the current version using the installation files (i.e. FlexNet Inventory Agent.msi, mgssetup.ini and data1.cab for Windows)? Or do your scripts stop the existing Flexera agent executables (one technique is here) and then run the installer without removing the prior version first? I also saw this post and read the chapter in Gathering Flexnet Inventory on this topic but there wasn't much to go on. Curious about the experiences of those of you who have done this in the past and whether you'd do it that way again if necessary. --Mark
