I went into the Cognos piece to see if i could pinpoint where that number was coming from and there was an SAP license with no Override price. I put one in - we'll see if that changes it tomorrow.

Let's put it this way, i adjusted enough of the licenses that the metric should have gone down significantly. It did not move one $

I did. I even did a couple of before and after comparisons. Even after changing the Override Unit price, the raw extract of that table showed a considerable difference from my starting number to ending number, but the metric didn't budge at all.

Tried that. Doesn't work. I even then set the Override to 0.01 in case it didn't like 0.00 - the metric on the dashboard did not budge, no matter how we set the override price.

Yes, but then you have to explain all of that to the people looking at the dashboards, and that conversation doesn't always translate to their liking. If the goal of the metric is to truly measure what is covered by a license, then the metric should be adjusted to reflect that.

I see a few issues with the proposed solution: 1) The Unlicensed/Licensed metric on the dashboard uses these number to assess your total coverage picture, which is inaccurate when you are looking at applications with custom metrics that will not 'consume' as an install should; 2) when you are working with a publisher that is mostly custom metrics and you have approximately 100 licenses for a single publisher, then creating one license set to device or user, to get that consumption registered, is not what i would consider best practice - nor would creating another hundred; 3) the only way to get these removed from the list is to trigger the consumption of the install or ignore the application - the latter is really not acceptable. I don't even know if Deferring the application would work - maybe worth a try. Perhaps an additional status that would omit from the Dashboard metric could be an option?

Did you ever come to a conclusion on this? I am encountering the same issue.

Yes, but BIOS serial numbers that are not unique should be blacklisted and not subject to merging. It causes much more havoc with duplicate inventory devices where the non-unique serial number does match and it has been replaced or reimaged, don't you think?

Can the matching rules be altered? it seems that it is matching by Serial Number and Computer Name. Computer Names change where Serial Numbers tend to stay the same. By creating two different records based on a name change, this becomes messy and problematic. I would prefer a match on Serial Number/Domain Name.

If you set the Required evidence to Ignored, that should resolve your issue.

We are being asked to report on all of our purchases and grouping them by software title (Item Description) and representing that in a dashboard is impossible because you can't really group them, other than by SKU. But even that would be too large a dataset to represent well. We are looking for a Product Name or Product Family that can be derived from the SKU and then tied to the SoftwareTitleInfo table to pull that Product Name. Does that make sense?

Hey Chris, We are trying to create a report from our All Purchases and normalize the data for Power BI reporting to reflect a Product Name vs. the Item Description, if the SKU matches an entry in FNMS. I know the data is encrypted, but is there any way to correlate the purchase part no to the Product name found in the SoftwareTitleInfo table? Appreciate your help. Anne

We also created an adapter for this, The Red Hat team created a daily export that we pull down to our server using PowerShell. The adapter then reads that file and allocates it to the license daily. Then i built a SQL View that demonstrates where the two sources do not agree. The first step though is getting that extract from Satellite. The rest is cake.
