Hello @craig_moore ,
We have released with ITAM 2022R1.2 (and then with the just release on premise 2022R2 version) a "Windows Server Flat" report. The report has been recreated to allow allocations from a Business Adapter Studio (this works very well), and also for an integration that directly calls the SOAP API (GetCustomViewReult). It has attributes that makes it available for the API call. You need the SavedSearchID of your report that support can provide you. You can imagine that an integration every day (before reconciliation) reads the data in the report and allocates all servers and VMs to the right Licenses.
When it comes to Windows Server (and even more now that the "Per VM" licensing has been implemented) the recommendations (computer "by Host") is way less static and allocations will be more useful that Intelligent Restriction, for the "Standard vs. DataCenter" topic.
However, the "CIS versus Windows Server" (that is maybe your true need) is a topic that is more static. The versions of the report released in March (that is using the 90 peaks) had the "Cluster level contamination" approach. as soon as SCCM/ System Center / End Point Management Client was found in a cluster, the full cluster had to be licensed. The "Number of SCCM VMs in Cluster (and proportion of VMs with SCCM) allow to make this determination. This "cluster level" assessment allows again to use an intelligent restriction that will use a more "static" criteria.
Note that with the new "per VM" licensing managed by the latest report, the "contamination" (when using "90 peak /VM" new option) is computed at host level. For use of "intelligent restriction, I would use cluster level assessment.
Hope it helps,
Nicolas

I have to editorialize about the erosion of the value prop of the relationship here. The LISA licenses are pricey and are expected to be paid by individual versus the shared resources the practice guides previously represented. Flexera's going to do what it's going to do, but I definitely feel the retreat from Flexera offering foundational knowledge to its practitioner community.
Sigh......

Here is an Idea that is tracking an enhancement related to this discussion: ITAMFNMS-I-10: Microsoft GMSA (Group Managed Service Accounts) for FNMS/FlexeraONE ITAM
Please vote for that idea if it is of interest/relevance to you.

A side note to this topic... most organizations running SQL Server on Amazon RDS may be able to skip connecting it to FNMS based on the simple principle that Amazon RDS ALWAYS includes the license for SQL Server. So unless you need to license another product (not SQL Server) based on its database usage in RDS, there is no compliance risk to having SQL Server running in RDS. Oracle Database on RDS is still sold in BYOL configuration, so Flexera connection to RDS is still important if on-prem Oracle db licenses are being moved to RDS.

@anhpham1652 it sounds like the beacon isn't reaching the IP. We had a similar situation even though we had the firewall opened. In the end, the only way we solved this was to install a beacon on a VM in that vCenter itself, and run the discovery rule from that beacon (by assigning the subnet to that beacon).

@craig_moore - this will work as long as the certificates used are appropriately trusted. Commercial certificates will typically be broadly trusted by your computers, and your internal certificate management team would be able to confirm which computers will trust certificates that are internally issued.

We were able to work on a couple of devices today and Test-NetConnection works but same An existing connection was 'forcibly closed by the remote host' error when we tried C:\Program Files (x86)\ManageSoft\Policy Client\mgspolicy.exe -t machine -o UILevel=Auto As mentioned most devices report in fine but some do not and based on some initial testing we are thinking the difference is that device reports in fine when user is working remotely from home and same device fails when user is back working in the office on the corporate network. We have just one beacon but heard that maybe security differences when in office versus working from home. Still validating but if correct next step is to work with network/security team on a possible reason and options to resolve. Has anyone experienced something similar given the large number of working from home users during COVID?

(Edit: I posted the below before seeing the comments from @craig_moore and @mfranz. Those comments are asking the right sort of things better than I've asked, but I'll leave my comments here for reference.)
Dealing with multiple devices that have the same name can be difficult. It may be that the relationship between hosts and VMs in this scenario is based on the VM name (e.g. because the information from vCenter doesn't provide sufficient alternate identity information to use something else), in which case it will likely to be difficult to automatically handle this.
I'm not sure if the VM serial numbers are relevant for this relationship, but one thing to check to rule it out as being a factor is that the different VMs do in fact have different serial numbers.

Just to update on the issue that computers where still on screen... and it resonates with multiple customer situations I have seen: there was a duplicated inventory source (the beacon reading inventory data from the FNMS Inventory database) and this was causing sticky data. Technically, if a beacon (or any inventory source) imports data into FNMS, it will create a "ComplianceConnectionID". If you have old connection or duplivcated ones, you may get incredibly painful "merging" issues with old evidences causing false positives... check on https://community.flexera.com/t5/FlexNet-Manager-Knowledge-Base/Inventory-Gap-Analysis-custom-reports-VMs-from-vCenter-Oracle/ta-p/211848 for the "merged devices" report.
To delete a connection, go to admin/Data Input (first screenshot), Inventory imports, open the detail, delete the connection (second screenshot).

We are having this issue with one of my customers. However they are on-prem 2019 R2 and just now upgrading to 2020 R2. Sounds like that upgrade won't fix the issue of AHV VMs being reporting as physical if only now the latest FNMS upgrade is addressing this. I do see that Inventory Device Type is an editable field, so we could manually change this to Virtual Machine. I've never had to change that field before so I don't know if the next inventory will just override that and resent it back to Computer.

We figured out this issue. We ran the CRLUTIL check utility and it turns out our CRL file was expired. We updated CRL file and works correctlynow. Thanks

Hello. Does anyone have experience with creating a license for JavaSE using the Named User Plus metric? How does consumption behave for instances of commercial JRE installed on workstations? Is consumption based on the quantities of installations, or does consumption factor in separate user accounts on the workstation?

Hey Kyle. Probably unrelated, but if your goal is to get the vCenter license, Host information and VM to Host relationships, you can do that with a Discovery & Inventory Rule to reach out to the API like any other vCenter.

If you could stage your SCCM data into an independent database, you could limit the number of datasets in this process. The original SCCM adapter would then only import from this limited staging database. Could be a complex process as the original adapter uses a function which is rather complex to properly re-create in a staging DB.
