Well, unchecking the hidden checkbox in the properties of the prerequisite seemed to work. However, instead of prompting the user to install Windows Installer 4.5 now it just went ahead and did it without any user prompt. This is adequate for my needs though. Thanks! ... View more

The JRE is already installed, but its version is unknown (it hasn't been managed in the past 5 years, so each workstation has a different version) That's a good question - this might be related to trying to update a specific previous version. I ended up changing the attribute for the InstallWelcome dialog in the Dialog table to include the SysModal bit. This changed the value of Attribute from 3 to 11 and it appears to be working. Thanks for the assistance! EDIT: That didn't fix it...I tried the install on another PC and the InstallWelcome dialog for my chained MSI is still appearing behind the Installshield progress dialog. I have a custom action within a chained MSI that requires Admin privileges. If I was installing this MSI on its own, I would just bootstrap the MSI within a setup.exe to get the Admin privileges. However when I run an Installscript MSI that installs this MSI via chaining as an Admin, this MSI is not getting the proper privileges because it's returning an error that would only occur in Non-Admin mode. ... That was the problem. I updated the product codes in some of my chained packages, but didn't update in the IDE. It appears as if the file location was still valid for streaming the package into the install, however the product code didn't match so that's why the uninstall didn't work.
