Hi Aaron,
Regarding your first question; The Asset Report will list every device that responds to an ICMP ping. This can be anything from a cellular phone/tablet, to a printer, or even a time clock. Those devices wouldn't be included on the IaaS Cloud Pricing page.
The IaaS Cloud Pricing page will display display two listing for each device.
• Inventory—Compares the resources present and usable (provisioned) by the device against the various cloud instances, to provide a match on what is already present in the environment. However, many systems may not be utilizing the full potential of the hardware.
• Usage—Determines the instance type that is the best fit for the actual workload (performance) of the system, based on the data collected during the performance collection period of the assessment.
The Inventory data will be calculated when a device is properly discovered, so long as there is not an issue with data collection. The Usage data will be calculated once a device has been licensed for data collection, and that data collection successful.
Regarding your second question; For a device be listed on the IaaS Cloud Pricing page:
1.) The Calculate Cloud Pricing feature must be utilized.
2.) The device must be properly discovered (inventoried). This will provide "Inventory" data on the page.
3). After the device is licensed, successful data collection has occurred, this will provide "Usage" data.
Hope this clarifies the difference in reporting.
Please let me know if there are questions.
Thank you,
Mark Jamison

Question:
How long will it take for a Discovery scan to complete?
Answer:
A Discovery scan take anywhere from a couple of minutes, to a couple of days, or longer in some cases to complete. Completion time will be dependent on the number of subnets, size of the subnets, number of end points, and speed and congestion of the network.

Question:
How does the device Discovery process work?
Answer:
During the Discovery process, the RN150 virtual machine will use ICMP to verify a device is responsive. Once a reply is received, it will then check if WMI, SSH or SNMP ports are open. Depending on which port is open, the credential information on file in the RN150 will then be used to access the device. If the credential has the appropriate permission level for access, the virtual appliance will then query the device for inventory data. If the inventory commands are successful, the device will be properly “discovered” when the process completes.

Question:
What is the Validate Credential feature used for?
Answer:
The credential validation feature is found in the Windows and Linux sections of the RN150. The feature will use the provided credential and attempt to access a device. If successful, next all of the commands used for inventory (discovery) and performance collection will be ran against the device. If an error is received, the feature will provide it. The feature is very useful in troubleshooting inventory (discovery) and performance collection issues.

Question:
What is the Firewall report used for?
Answer:
The Firewall report will evaluate TCP connections recorded from devices and provide this detail for use in opening the correct ports for device communication in firewalls when a server is migrated to a new data center or to the cloud.
The report will detail the required ports for the communication to be successful going through firewalls/Access lists.

Question:
Which web browser should I use when navigating the Portal?
Answer:
We have found that web browsers such as IE or Edge can be buggy with our Platform and may not properly work from time to time. For this reason, we recommend and support the latest version of either Google Chrome or Firefox. If you are already using a recommended web browser, please ensure the version is the most up to date.
You may also attempt to use a Google Chrome Incognito session or a Firefox Private session to navigate to the Portal.

Question:
On the View Individual App Stacks page, on the Connections tab, what is difference between Total Flows and Distinct Conversations?
Answer:
Total flows will be “like distinct conversations” but will also include the count of distinct protocols.
Example: Between hosts A and B, if there is ssh and https, total flows = 2, but distinct conversations = 1.

Question:
Why are virtual machines being labeled as physical? (non-VMWare vm’s)
Answer:
The Platform physical/virtual determination is based only on whether the RN150 has a VMware VM entity we can associate with a device collected at the operating system level, not on whether the device is running within a hypervisor.

Hi,
At this time, the platform does not offer further regional details for the GCP provider.
As an option, you may submit a request to add regions for the provider. You may submit Enhancements Requests through this Community Forum.

Question:
What would cause an N/A timestamp on a licensed device on the Summary of Collection page?
Answer:
This is an indication the device was not attempted for performance collection, or registration of the backing data is failing. Not attempted means that: A) the RN150 does not think the device is licensed, or B) the RN150 no longer has the credential (meaning, it was removed).

Question: Please describe when a device is classified as a Database Instance?
Answer: The "Database Instance" devicetype is reserved for database instances whose host devices are not in inventory (as determined by the host device having the same IP as the inventoried database). Devices with functioning OS or VMware reporting will show up as their standard devicetype. You should not see duplicates in the assets table if you do have the host device in inventory provided we are able to match the database to the host server.

Question: How does the RN150 collect Linux Version Detail?
Answer: The RN150 will collect the contents of /etc/os-release, specifically the value of PRETTY_NAME. If that fails, next the RN150 will proceed to attempt /etc/oracle-release and then /etc/redhat-release. In those case’s it will collect the full content of the file, as-is.

Question:
Why is the command "which dmidecode" reporting as INCOMPLETE?
Answer:
"which: no dmidecode in (/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin)"
Based on the above validation result, this is actually a full command failure, which resulted in an Incomplete Inventory process for this device (meaning although this command failed, it did not stop inventory from being successful on this device).
-The reason this command failed is likely due to DMIDECODE not being installed on this server (we see this semi often). This is evident based on the output of the failure from above.
The DMIdecode pulls the Hardware Vendor, Model and Serial information. This will not inhibit the gathering of CPU, Ram and storage information and should the above mentioned information be desired, DMIDECODE can be installed of the desired servers and those servers can be re-scanned.

Question: What do the different status returns mean when running the Validate Credential feature?
Answer: EXPLORATORY - This is a command run to see if these devices/directories exist. These are not required by the product but rather account for new technologies
INCOMPLETE - Means the command failed but is not required for a full success( meaning they are not 'critical' commands.
SUCCESS - Means the command was successful.

Hi,
The assessment can be renamed and the assessment can also be deleted, however, access is not given to end user to complete either action. To have an assessment renamed or deleted, a support case would need to be opened requesting the actions. A support case can be opened through this Community Forum.
When opening a new support case, please ensure to include the name of the assessment in which the case will be regarding.
Please let me know if there are questions.
Thank you,
