Question: Why do 2016 and 2019 Windows servers get an RSCORE?
Answer: This is done to identify devices that can be lift and shifted to the cloud. In regards to why devices with Postgre or Mysql in the runpath get a Replatorm RSCORE, this is because there is an 'opportunity' to re-platform to RDS. Meaning these are common PaaS offerings and we want to notify the user of opportunities to use managed service to maximize the cloud benefit (scale, high availability, reduced management etc...)."

Question: Is there a limit to the number of subnets we can add in the virtual appliance?
Answer: There is also no limit to the number of subnets you can load into the RN150 for scanning. The platform will scan no more than 4 Class B subnets at a time (or equivalent). The RN150 appliance will only permit subnet ranges from /32 to /16 sizes to be entered.

Question: What are the bandwidth requirements to run cloudscape? How will this impact our network?
Answer: For Discovery and Inventory phase specifically, the best practice is to start with a smaller subnet range and expand the scope with iterative scans. Not due to performance impact on the network, but due to having erroneous or out of scope systems clutter the Asset Inventory report.
Size of communication from the RN150 and the servers scales depending on how busy the servers are. For instance, a server with thousands of connections will give us a large `netstat` output. On RISC test environment, between 27 and 81 MB communication was observed every 24 hours for a single server. Each collection sweep during this test was less than 1 MB for a fairly idle server, and 3 MB for a much more busy one.
The bandwidth will depend on how much data is moved. Each major data set is transferred separately, but it is compressed and encrypted prior to sending. Assume less than ~100MB per transfer.
If network stability is at risk or of a major concern, please start small in the scope of scanning. This can be done by using a single subnet section for inventory as is mentioned above and having the onsite team monitor the increase in network or server load during that time. Those same devices could then be licensed and monitored for 2-3 days to examine load during performance collection.
On engagements of similar size, we noticed users performed a full collection of the IT estate at the same time and did so without any issue. In larger environments of 10+ thousand, we saw a significant drop in this practices, and users started with a smaller 500-1000 server scan/performance collection first for 2-3 days, then rolled out collection to the remaining servers.

Question: I clicked end assessment and now I cannot request a rescan. How do I restart the scan?
Answer: Please note that selecting End Assessment will cause RN150 appliance to stop collection and no further scans can be selected. Typically, the user will select 'End Assessment' after all collection is completed and the RN150 is no longer needed. You will need to open a support case to have the assessment opened for additional scans/collection.

Question: We added database credentials, but the database summary report did not appear automatically.
Answer: The platform requires devices to be licensed for visibility into performance, traffic, and Database information. Once devices have been licensed, the platform will begin to monitor performance, traffic, and DB metrics and populate the reports once enough data has been collected.

Answer: The platform will not collect database files. The platform collects metadata (database hostname, table name, size of tables, number of connections, etc); the only user-defined data collected is schema names (which, in the case of Oracle DB, are also usernames)

We got an email saying the appliance was offline however we checked the virtual appliance and the appliance shows connected. How can we confirm the appliance is communicating successfully?
Answer:
The platform will send an offline alarm if the appliance stops checking in for 10 minutes. You can verify the online/offline status of the appliance by logging into https://portal.riscnetworks.com, select the 'Collect Data' drop down menu, and select Appliance Status. You will see the IP address of the RN150 and the 'Last Check In' time displayed. The time will reflect the current UTC time if the appliance is online.

Question:
We have deleted the RISC appliance servers from our network, but all parties keep getting all below email regularly. Would you please help me in stop getting below messages to all parties?
Answer:
The platform will send offline email notifications daily if the appliance is powered down/deleted while the assessment is in a ‘running’ state.
You will need to open a support case and request the assessment be moved to a complete state to stop the offline notifications. On assessments moving forward, please ensure to log into the RN150 appliance and select “End Assessment” if the assessment has completed and the RN150 appliance is no longer needed.

The platform can discover connections from devices in the cloud if these devices are ICMP reachable from the RN150 appliance, licensed, and discovered at the OS level. (Windows, Linux) The platform will also monitor any connections sourced or destined to devices in the LAN talking to devices in the cloud.

Question: I’m getting an NSTATUS error 0x800706BA when testing my Windows credential. Could you tell me what this error is indicating? Answer: Error code 0x800706BA indicates that the remote procedure call (RPC) server is unavailable. This error can occur on ‘workgroup’ devices not joined to a Domain where the Windows inbound firewall rules are not permitting WMI queries. You can confirm this on workgroup Windows devices by verifying the following inbound rules are permitted on the Windows device:
Windows Management Instrumentation (ASync-In) Windows Management Instrumentation (DCOM-In) Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI- IN)
