Did you mean:

Rename black and white lists

Hi - has anyone thought about changing the name of black and white lists. the connotation that black is bad and white is good is somewhat out dated now.

you could use: Allow\approved\accepted\permitted list. And block lists

As of today, SVM now uses the terms "Allow Lists" and "Block List".

SVR will make the same update in its next release (currently scheduled for the end of August).

Thanks, the suggestion is appreciated. We want to ensure what we choose is intuitive and standard so will be watching/participating industry discussions on topics like this where we can be quick to transition to new industry standard terminology which I anticipate may evolve quickly.

NCSC have a nice write up about it. https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/blog-post/terminology-its-not-black-and-white

Twitter have also done the same. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-53273923.

MS and Google are encouraging developers to move away from black and white lists. Plenty of example of some of the biggest tec firms moving to a 'new industry standard terminology'
Thank you, we are working to make a change to "allow list" and "block list" in the near future.

I've received the same direction from my Management as well. They are asking that we refer to it as exclude or exception.

Thanks,

Brant
