Error 1920 during SVM Next Daemon Install
Error 1920 during SVM Next Daemon Install
Summary
During the installation of the SVM Distribution Daemon (Software Vulnerability Management a.k.a. SVM Next), you cannot pass the configuration of a service account. The installation wizard results in error 1920 yielding an error related to insufficient privileges of the account, even though this account may be fully privileged local/domain admin one.
Symptoms
During the installation of the SVM Distribution Daemon (Software Vulnerability Management a.k.a. SVM Next), you cannot pass the configuration of a service account. The installation wizard results in error 1920 yielding an error related to insufficient privileges of the account, even though this account may be fully privileged local/domain admin one.
Cause
The issue occurs because the service account lacks "Log on as a service" permission, even though the account is fully privileged on the system or in the domain.
"Log On as a Service" permission must be explicitly configured within the Local Security Policy of a system and it is not part of standard Domain/Local Administrator rights.
Resolution
This problem is well documented in the online Helpnet Guide for the Software Vulnerability Management (a.k.a. SVM Next) solution.
Follow the steps in the online Flexera guide to go around this problem.
Workaround
Alternatively, you can assign the required permission to your service account by taking the following steps before running the installation:
1. Open "Run" (or Start menu Search) and enter secpol.msc
2. Expand Local Policies tree and enter User Rights Assignment
3. Find "Log On As a Service" in the list and add the service account on the list.
