Summary

This article explains how data from the Software Vulnerability Manager solution can be exported in a CSV file for further processing and even more customized reporting options such as feeding it into PowerBI or another similar tool. As you can get all software applications, active installations, software vulnerabilities, and their corresponding characteristics, vendor names, criticalities and cvss3 scores and so much more out of it, this article should help you get started with it.

Synopsis

What ways are there to export data to CSV and what data can I get?

Discussion

Software Vulnerability Manager was designed to allow users to export their application vulnerabilities' data into CSV-formatted files by using the "Export" feature available at the top-right corner of most data-rich menus. You can also export CSV through the PDF-based Report Configuration menu by changing the report format from PDF to CSV. That lets you get great source data in more automated ways. Data can also be exported on a scheduled basis by the SVM Daemon by setting some Scheduled Exports.

The Export option that is available in almost interfaces containing data is the first place to look. You just have to go where you have the data you need within the interface and get the data through the local option of that same window. That's how you can get all sorts of data quickly and efficiently.

The available options let you export the current Page, All Pages, or Schedule Export of the data based on a custom schedule that your process would rely upon.

The Scheduled Export feature can be used to automate the exports of multiple datasets since the SVM Daemon is looking after the schedule and is able to handle multiple exports in a row. Once the data is exported in the CSV-formatted file, it could either be imported directly to PowerBi and processed further.

It is worth knowing that the same "Export" feature with all its corresponding options is provided within the "Database Console" where one can see any sort of data available in their database.

Simply right-click on a database table (under "Tables") and select "Show Data" will present the data available within this table in the "Results" window from where one can use "Export" to get the data out.

Before you attempt to export any data, please ensure that the Software Vulnerability Manager was downloaded and successfully set up on a system that has access to the SVM host.
