HotFix: Unable to Obtain Trialware License

Summary

This article describes an issue which prevents obtaining new licenses in the Trialware view of InstallShield and how to resolve it.

Symptoms

Attempting to obtain a new license from the Trialware view of InstallShield fails and the following error message is displayed:

Cause

A server side issue may cause requests for new licenses from the InstallShield client to fail. This issue is under investigation

Resolution

In order to resolve an issue acquiring Trialware licenses using versions of InstallShield 2013 and older, please follow the steps below.

Download the installer for InstallShield 2014 SP 1 here.
Install InstallShield 2014 SP 1.
Install the HotFix available for IS 2014 SP 1 from the linked Knowledge Base article.
Make a copy of the InstallShield project file.
Open the copy of the InstallShield project file using InstallShield 2014 SP 1.
When prompted to convert the project, select ?Yes?.
Navigate to the Trialware view in the project and acquire a Trialware license.
Navigate to the Direct Editor View and select the ISDRMFile table.
Open the original project with the older version of InstallShield and navigate to the Direct Editor view.
Locate the ISDRMFile table and select it.
Drop all rows from this table.
In InstallShield 2014 SP 1, select all rows in the ISDRMFile table , right click, and select Copy Row(s).
In the original version of InstallShield, right click in the Direct Editor view and select Paste Row(s).
Verify the row(s) were copied from InstallShield 2014 SP 1 to the original version successfully.
Select the ISDRMFileAttribute table and verify all rows were dropped from this table.
In InstallShield 2014 SP 1, select the ISDRMFileAttribute table.
Select all rows in the ISDRMFileAttribute table, right click, and select Copy Row(s).
In the original version of InstallShield, right click in the Direct Editor view and select Paste Row(s).
Verify the row(s) were copied from InstallShield 2014 SP 1 to the original version successfully.
Select the ISDRMLicense table.
In InstallShield 2014 SP 1, select the ISDRMLicense table.
Locate the row(s) which are not in the same table in the original project, right click them, and select Copy Row(s).
In the original version of InstallShield, right click in the Direct Editor view and select Paste Row(s).
Verify the row(s) were copied from InstallShield 2014 SP 1 to the original version successfully.
Save and close the InstallShield 2014 SP 1 project.
Build the project using the original version of InstallShield.
