HOTFIX: "Unspecified Error" Displayed in InstallScript View When InstallShield Japanese is Integrated With Visual Studio

Summary

This article includes the fix for an issue when using the Japanese version of InstallShield 2014 integrated in Visual Studio and attempting to use the InstallScript view.

Symptoms

When accessing the InstallScript view in an InstallShield project using Visual Studio with the Japanese version of InstallShield integrated, an "Unspecified Error" is displayed and it is not possible to use the InstallScript editor.

Cause

The behavior is caused by an issue with InstallShield 2014.

Steps To Reproduce

Basic MSI Project
  1. Create a Basic MSI project in Visual Studio.
  2. Double click the InstallScript view in the Solution Explorer.
  3. Right click Files and select "New Script File" in the InstallScript view.
  4. Click in the InstallScript editor.

InstallScript/MSI Project
  1. Create an InstallScript/MSI project in Visual Studio.
  2. Double click the InstallScript view in the Solution Explorer.

Resolution

  1. Close Visual Studio and/or InstallShield.
  2. Download the attached IsDevPkg.zip.
  3. Navigate to the InstallShield System folder (locations specified below).
  4. Rename the file IsDevPkg.dll to ORIG_IsDevPkg.dll.
  5. Extract the file IsDevPkg.dll from IsDevPkg.zip to the System folder.
  6. Open Visual Studio and the project.
