Max product version

I have created an installscript project and set the product version as 999.999
It fails during the maintainance mode. It pops up error, "Version Comparison failed". In the registry, Version string has the value 0x00000000 (0)
Is there any max limit on the version number?

The maximum product version for any setup is 255.255.65535 (i.e. a DWORD split into BYTE.BYTE.WORD).
