This depends on what you mean by a major upgrade.
- If you mean what Windows Installer defines as a Major Upgrade, then no - you must change ProductVersion and ProductCode.
- If you want to uninstall the previous version before installing the upgrade, then that can be done with a custom action in some cases (interactive UI modes in particular)
- If you just want to change the major version number, this can be distributed as a minor upgrade and will work fine.

Thanks for reply. I want to do the second option, i.e uinstall the older version and upgrade newer one. Can you breifly tell me the steps.

The best way forward here is to change the product code and make this a proper major upgrade by adding a Major Upgrade Item in the Upgrades view. Otherwise it's possible to get into funky states, and the behavior will differ between interactive and silent installs.
