Hi All,
I found the issue to be the Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB2962872)
This updates the mshtml.dll from version 11.0.9600.172126 to 11.0.9600.17207
Uninstalling this update resolved the issue of ISDEV Crashing upon startup.
Regards Alfred

Yep just happened to me on InstallShield 2012 on Windows 8.1 too.
I uninstalled all the Windows Updates from today (there were about 20) so it's good to know which one it is thanks.

You are welcome
BTW: InstallShield 2014 is also affected, but InstallShield 2010 is NOT.
So I hope that Flexera will fix this as soon as possible.
Regards Alfred

The exact same thing happened to me today on Windows 7 Sp1. I installed Windows Updates this morning, and now both InstallShield 2012 Spring and InstallShield 2013 crash on startup.
Thanks to this thread, I found and uninstalled update KB2962872. The problem is now resolved.

This occurred today on my Win7 SP1 x64 machine with InstallShield 2009 Professional.
The culprit was C:\Windows\SysWOW64\mshtml.dll which apparently was updated by KB2962872.
Uninstalled and IS worked again.

Everyone, we are actively looking into the incompatibility with many versions of InstallShield and Microsoft's recent security update to IE (KB 2962872). Further information and updates will be available on the InstallShield 2014 Sticky.

Thanks Michael.
I run into the same trouble using InstallShield 2011 Premier.

I've been on holidays for a week, came back and my server machine requested a reboot to finish some windows updates.
After which, I could no longer use InstallShield 2012 or 2014 on Server 2012 due to this crash.
Thanks so much for posting this with the KB# to uninstall - it has saved me a lot of time wasting.
Hopefully the issue will be resolved soon.

We've just published an interim solution. You can restore your .htm files if you had removed them. Let us know if this doesn't get you up and running!
