Desktop Target Systems

Jump to solution

I used to use InstallShield Express.  I am now using InstallShield 2021 R2.

I cannot find a place to control what Windows desktops I either decide not to allow the install to proceed, or allow the install to proceed.

Example. Do Not Allow XP, Vista, Win 7

Example.  Allow Win 8, Win 10, Win 11.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @TheHouz,

Thank you for your post.

Please accept our apologies for the confusion and any frustration.

Yes, you are absolutely correct--if an operating system, such as Windows XP or Windows 7, has a check mark, the product will be installed on those operating systems; if an operating system, such as Windows Vista, does not have a check mark, the product will not be installed on that operating system. A check mark indicates that the operating system is supported by your product (target application). No check mark indicates that the operating system is not supported by your product (target application).

Here are links to documentation which confirm this understanding of the Project Assistant > Installation Requirements check marks for the operating system:

Within your project enable the Project Assistant first:

View > Project Assistant

Then go here:

Project Assistant Tab > Installation Requirements > Does your application require any specific operating system = Yes

Hope this helps.

Yes, that helped.  One question.  If there is no check mark, such as XP, Win 7 and Win Vista does that mean it will not install on those desktop operating systems?
