Billboards, multilanguage setups, and release flags
Hi,
I have just started playing around with Billboards.
That looks cool, but I think it lacks 2 things to make it really useful:
[LIST=1]
The billboard resources (either flash or images) should be localizable: I don't necessarily want to display the same images during an English or a French installations.
As my IS project uses Release Flags to build setups for Product A and Product B, I would like to display Billboard A when I install product A and Billboard B when I install product B.
I haven't seen any way to do that in IS 2010, or have I missed something?

I have just realized that Billboards are localizable in InstallScript projects and in InstallScript MSI projects, but apparently not in Basic MSI Project!
Is there any reason why Basic MSI projects don't allow to localize Billboards?

The billboard support in Basic MSI projects is unrelated to the support provided for the InstallScript UI. The support has been around in the Express edition for a while but was recently included the Pro and Premier editions. Some of the limitations that were present in Express were carried over to Pro/Premier.
I've submitted an enhancement request under work order IOA-000057673 regarding adding support for release flags and localization for Basic MSI billboard support.

Hi Josh,
Thanks for your answer.
I'm afraid the lack of multilanguage support in Basic MSI is quite bad and makes this feature useless.
Basic MSI does support localized dialogs, but not localized billboards...
Could you please tell me what will happen with the enhancement request you submitted?
What are the chances of actually having that enhancement one day?
Regards

Enhancements are sent on to and prioritized by our product management against other issues, typically based on how many customers have reported the same or similar issues.

Hi Josh,
I think it would be good to make this a bit more visible: why don't you guys make your bug/new feature tracking system visible to the user community?
For instance, Nokia has done that with Qt and I do find really handy to be able to see the status of bugs and ideas that other people submitted.
I also allows to anticipate changes required in your software and possibly plan purchase of new versions.
Maybe that should be the subject of another thread?
