execute an application in pre-Install

My requirement is to execute an application which is built using VC++2005 SP1 on the user machine before installing the product files, to check if the user machine has run-time system. How do I do it?? I mean, I'll have to install that executable and then execute it .. right? Can I do it pre-install stage?

IA installs some temporary files when run, can't I install my application in the same folder, and then run that application in pre_install stage.?

The link works, I've just retested it: you need to actually click on it, not copy and paste it in a new window (this is a forum feature for long links, they're obscured to take less space at display but if you click or right click and copy link that should work).
